Hundreds of Ohio State students hoping to go to law school showed up for the OSU Law Fair yesterday in the Ohio Union ballrooms.
The ballrooms were filled with representatives from about 65 different law schools from around the country.
Many students were there to learn more about their options when selecting a law school.
"I wanted to see what opportunities all of the schools have to offer me," said Mandi Bucceroni, a senior in international business, pre-law.
Among the schools represented at the fair was OSU's Moritz College of Law.
"We are looking for well-rounded, academically strong students," said Robert L. Solomon, assistant dean of admissions at the Moritz College of Law. "It's not just a numbers game."
OSU students are highly regarded and very competitive when compared to law school candidates from across the country, Solomon said.
"They dominated (last year's class)," he said.
Of the 237 students that enrolled in the Moritz College last year, 39 of them were OSU graduates, he said.
OSU students should not be intimidated to apply to the Moritz College because of the high number of current OSU graduates in the program, Solomon said.
"We do not have a limitation on the number of OSU students we can accept," he said.
Bucceroni said that she, however, does not intend to apply for law school at OSU.
"I plan on going to school back in Philadelphia, where I am from," she said. "I was told to apply to schools close to where you want to live."
OSU students are also coveted by other universities and colleges around the country, said Ryan Gwillim, head student recruiter for the University of Illinois College of Law.
"We seem to be very strong in Ohio State students in our college," he said. "We seem to do very well in attracting them."
Gwillim said it is easy to see why OSU students are highly sought after and successful.
"There is such a great student body here at Ohio State," he said.
The Law Fair was part of a continuing tour of Ohio by law school representatives.
It is part of the Ohio Law Caravan that is traveling to nine locations and campuses, according to the Ohio Law Caravan Web site.
The tour includes stops at Youngstown State University, the Cleveland Metro area, Kent State University, the University of Akron, Bowling Green State University, the Dayton Metro area, Ohio University, the University of Cincinnati and OSU.
