Former magazine journalist, successful public relations executive and ardent yogini, Bess Gallanis has been practicing yoga for more than a decade and turns this passion into a creative new book, "Yoga Chick: A Hip Guide to Everything Om."

"Yoga Chick" speaks to the college woman. From "Yoga Chick 101" to "Everyday Om," the book's sections are well organized for complete comprehension of the various yoga poses, the importance of breathing and the overall life enrichment yoga provides.

The book can be used by a first-time yoga practicer or a budding yogini. Its six unique sessions are designed to build strength and flexibility and can easily be practiced in the home. Illustrated throughout, the book's pictures are useful for perfecting poses, although it is difficult to understand how to flow from one pose into another. From downward dog to dancer to eagle, each pose includes a description, an illustration and an explanation of the muscles the pose is meant to strengthen.

The book is strengthened by its encouragement of a healthy lifestyle, something every college woman needs to remember. "Yoga Chick" promotes the yoga lifestyle and strongly focuses on the benefits one can receive from practice. From relieving the stresses of life to creating energy, the book challenges the reader to embrace yoga as a lifestyle benefiting a young woman's entirety.

The book is sprinkled with fun tips on subjects as diverse as from aromatherapy and health to chakras and creating a home sanctuary and spa. Useful tips about health are highlighted through wellness tips and hearty recipes, such as fruit power smoothies. The author also encourages mental health through journaling and embracing one's creative individuality.

"Yoga Chick" is written with young women in mind and the tone is supportive and encouraging without being condescending or lecture-like. The book encompasses young women's blooming interest in spirituality, Buddhism and the ever-popular yoga style.

Since yoga hit the mainstream, a large number of people have looked to embrace this trend. "Yoga Chick" helps young women integrate yoga into their lives. Easy to read and easy to follow, "Yoga Chick" can be read from cover to cover or just flipped through on a lazy afternoon. The book's cute design and fun colors make it excellent for any girl on the go, and at $12.95, the book can make a great gift while not breaking the bank.

"Yoga Chick" emphasizes "style, strength, and serenity" for the young woman, so roll out your mat, take a deep breath, and say "Om."
