Batman fans everywhere, rejoice. The movie hailed as the best of 2008 by both amateur moviegoers and critics alike has more than a good chance of being nominated for Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards.

It seemed too good to be true when "The Dark Knight's" lavish story and impeccable acting exceeded the "comic book movie" moniker that has the tendency to negate any quality a film possesses.

And fans' dreams of grandeur were solidified when the Producer's, Director's, and Writer's Guilds of America announced their nominations for the best feature film, director, and best screenplay of 2008.

For best feature film of 2008, the Producer's Guild of America nominated "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", "Slumdog Millionaire", "Frost/Nixon", "Milk", and "The Dark Knight".

For the Best Director of 2008, the Director's Guild of America chose David Fincher ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"), Danny Boyle ("Slumdog Millionaire"), Ron Howard ("Frost/Nixon"), Gus Van Sant ("Milk") and Christopher Nolan ("The Dark Knight").

For Best Original Screenplay of 2008, the Writer's Guild nominated "Burn After Reading," "Milk," "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," "The Visitor" and "The Wrestler." The guild chose "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Doubt," "Frost/Nixon," "Slumdog Millionaire" and "The Dark Knight" as contenders for Best Adapted Screenplay of 2008.

Since 1990, when the Producer's Guild became a formidable determinate of the Academy Award candidates, all three guilds unanimously nominated 43 films as the best of their respective years. Of those 43 films, only three films have failed to be recognized by the academy as best picture nominees.

Academy Award nominations to be released later this month, fans of "The Dark Knight" can only wait patiently and hope that they are rewarded with a highly coveted recognition from a little golden man named Oscar.
