Campus-area cars get hit hard

Thursday

A 23-year-old woman says a thief smashed the driver's side window of her car at 8:45 a.m. Thursday while it was parked on East Norwich Avenue. The thief stole her iPod and GPS, valued together at $400.

A student reported that someone smashed one of the passenger side windows on her Volkwagen Jetta at 9 a.m. Thursday while it was parked near her East Norwich Avenue apartment. Nothing was stolen from the car.

A 23-year-old man from Pittsburgh, reported that someone entered his car Thursday morning while it was parked on East Oakland Avenue and stole his laptop, iPod, computer bag and CDs, valued together at $2,060.

A thief broke the passenger side window of a student's car Thursday afternoon while it was parked near his East 12th Avenue apartment and stole a jacket valued at $80.

At 8:20 p.m. Thursday, a thief smashed a window on a student's 1995 Cadillac parked near her Indianola Avenue apartment, and stole her purse and wallet.

Between Thursday night and Friday morning, a thief smashed the window of a 22-year-old student's car while it was parked on Indianola Avenue. The thief stole an estimated $1,000 in clothing.

A 29-year-old woman reported that between Thursday night and Friday morning, someone threw a rock through the driver's side window of her car while it was parked near East 17th Avenue and North Fourth Street. Nothing was stolen.

Friday

A 19-year-old student reported that at 1 a.m. Friday, someone used a rock or brick to break the rear driver's side window of his car while it was parked near East Eighth Avenue and North High Street. The thief stole an iPod valued at $300.

At 2:19 a.m. Friday, a witness saw a man breaking mirrors off of cars parked on East 16th Avenue. The witness followed the man to East 17th Avenue and called the police. An officer from the Columbus Division of Police arrived and found the suspect, who the witness identified as the man who had damaged the cars. The officer took the suspect's information and referred the owners of the seven damaged cars to the prosecutor's office. Two of the owners were students.

Saturday

Saturday evening someone smashed the front passenger side window of a student's Jeep while it was parked near his East 17th Avenue home, but nothing was stolen.

Burglars strike students' homes

Thursday

A 24-year-old Ohio State alumnus reported that a burglar broke into his North Fourth Street apartment Thursday afternoon or evening by throwing a rock through the back bedroom window. The burglar stole a laptop, 32-inch plasma TV and a digital camera, valued together at $1,350.

Friday

At 1:04 a.m. Friday, a male student was on the second floor of his Worthington Street apartment with a female student when they heard glass breaking downstairs. When he went downstairs, the man saw the burglar standing outside the broken window before he ran away. The burglar had thrown a cinderblock through the window, and stole a purse that contained a wallet, cell phone and a pair of sunglasses.

Between Friday night and Saturday afternoon, someone burglarized an Alden Avenue residence where two 23-year-old men live. On Saturday, the residents came home and found the back door and a window left open. The window frame had a dent where it had been pried open. The burglar stole a 52-inch television, two laptops, a Wii game system, an iPod, skis, a PlayStation 2 and DVDs, among other items. The stolen property is valued at $6,500.

Med Center staff member arrested

OSU Police arrested 24-year-old Arlexis T. Motley, an OSU Medical Center custodial worker, at 4:23 a.m. Saturday at the Medical Center. The arrest was an assist with Columbus Police, who had a warrant for Motley's arrest on a charge of domestic violence. A Columbus Police wagon arrived at 5:26 a.m. and took custody of Motley.

OSU Police arrest four for underage

Over the weekend, University Police arrested four students on campus for separate incidents involving underage drinking. Early Saturday morning, Julien A. Burkhalter, 19, was arrested near Stradley Hall; Lauren E. Smanik, 18, was arrested at East 11th Avenue and North High Street; and Drew C. Joyce, 18, was arrested on College Road. At approximately 2:27 a.m. Saturday, police arrested Megan E. Ford, 19, near College Road and 17th Avenue for underage drinking.

Student arrested for drug possession

Franklin Lo, an 18-year-old student, was arrested by University Police at 4 a.m. Saturday near Woodruff Avenue and College Road for possession of drug paraphernalia and drugs.

Radio Shack thieved

Police have a video of three suspects who collaborated on a theft at the Radio Shack on 2109 N. High St. The three suspects walked separately into the store around 7 p.m. Friday. One asked an employee about a cell phone while the other two asked another employee about buying an Xbox 360. While the employee went to the back room to get the Xbox, one of the suspects went to the computer area and cut a wire that secured a Compaq laptop to the counter. The thief took the computer and left with the other two suspects, who all fled southbound on High Street. Police collected video footage of the suspects in case they are identified or apprehended.

Student gets rude awakening

At 3:25 a.m. Friday, someone threw a large rock through the bedroom window of a student's Iuka Avenue residence.
