CBS is pulling out all the stops with its new horror-inspired murder mystery "Harper's Island."
Premiering 10 p.m. Thursday, April 9, "Harper's Island" is a 13-week miniseries about a group of friends and family who have gathered for a wedding on a secluded island off the coast of Seattle.
The island is famous for a string of unsolved murders that took place seven years ago and as the wedding nears, a new streak of gruesome murders begins.
In each episode someone on the island is killed, and by the end of the 13 weeks the killer will be revealed. A select few will make it off the island alive.
Ohio State students had a rare opportunity to watch the first episode of "Harper's Island" at a special sneak peek screening on April 2. About 30 students attended the preview, sponsored by the Ohio Union Activities Board.
"I really love scary movies," said Maggie Foster, a junior at OSU. "It was very suspenseful and I am for sure going to keep watching."
The theme of the show is far from original. It incorporates the "whodunit" of a film such as "Clue" with the horror of a teen slasher movie like "I Know What You Did Last Summer."
However, director Craig R. Baxley pushes through the uninspired plot to create an atmosphere of constant suspense, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats.
The show will please horror fans looking for a thrill on the small screen before they hit the theaters on the weekend.
While the premise of the show is weak and hackneyed, CBS has created a show that can compete.
Once you have watched the first episode you will want to tune in every Thursday night to see if your favorite character will be Harper's Island's next victim.
