To fill the spot left by former assistant coach Tamika Raymond, Women's basketball coach Jim Foster had to make some changes to his coaching staff.
In replacing the assistant coach, Foster promoted director of basketball operations Ed Baldwin to the assistant spot. Tanzania Williams, Raymond's sister, will take over as the new director of basketball operations.
Baldwin, with more than two decades of coaching experience, said that the transition to assistant coach was not difficult.
"This is what I do," Baldwin said. "This is what I've been doing for 20-odd years before I became basketball operations so that's just nothing new."
Baldwin has coached for 23 seasons, including a 13 year span at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has also coached for North Carolina State, Temple and Broughton high school in Raleigh, N.C.
Baldwin said he is ready to be back coaching.
"I am a coach, man" Baldwin said. "I was never a basketball operations guy."
Williams, who is the sister of also brings experience to her role as director of basketball operations. She previously served as the assistant to the director of operations for the Buckeyes, managing the team's video department.
Prior to her return to OSU, Williams was the director of operations at the University of Virginia for three years.
Coach Foster said he is confident in Williams and her appointment as director of basketball operations.
"As far as the knowledge of the job and what needs to be (done) and the experience that she brings to the table ... I think makes for a very easy transition" Foster said.
The director of basketball operations is in charge of the administrative aspects of the team, such as scheduling and travel arrangements.
Foster said that the reorganizing of the coaching staff has worked out in favor of the women's basketball program at OSU.
"Change is inevitable in this business," Foster said. "I think it can be a very good thing because you have to retool, reprioritize."
"In this case we just hit a homerun," Foster said.
