Smith named NCAA committee chair
Athletic director Gene Smith was named chair of the Division I Men's Basketball Committee for the 2010-2011 academic season.
Smith will start his term Sept. 1, 2010, assuming he is officially given approval by the NCAA Division I Championships/Sports Management Cabinet.
He has been Ohio State's athletic director since Mar. 5, 2005, and added the title of associate vice president in 2008.
Buckeye golfer misses cut at U.S. Open
Vaughn Snyder, who recently graduated from OSU, fired a 76 and 78 in his two rounds at the U.S. Open, the PGA Tour's second of four majors, last week at Bethpage Black in New York.
The majority of Snyder's first round was pushed back to Friday after rain washed away all of Thursday's play. Snyder finished the remainder of his first round Friday, with a 76, then shot a 78 on Saturday.
The Massilon, Ohio, native missed the cut by 10 strokes. Snyder was one of just 156 golfers to qualify for the Open.
OSU names 2009 Hall of Fame class
Twelve newcomers will join the Buckeye elite in the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in September, the Men's Varsity O Alumni Association and the Women's Varsity O Alumnae Society announced.
The following alumni will be inducted Sept. 25 and introduced before OSU's football game against Illinois on Sept. 26:
