Three armed robbery suspects were detained near East 18th and Indianola avenues early Monday morning after three individuals were robbed at gunpoint in the surrounding area.

Following three separate armed robberies beginning around 2 a.m. Monday, an eyewitness provided the Columbus Police with information regarding the possible suspects.

“There was a witness that had seen some possible suspects get into a silver car,” said Columbus Police Department Robbery Detective Ken Kirby. “The officers were able to locate the car, and once they made a traffic stop on the vehicle, one of the individuals actually bailed out but was caught a short distance away, and the other two were apprehended inside the car.”

Terry Teasley, 34, and DeVante Crump, 18, two of the three suspects in the car, have been charged with armed robbery, while the third, a female suspect, was detained from the car but later released.

Kirby said the arrests occurred in the alley behind 243 E. 18th Ave. Danny Paulson, a fourth-year who lives near there, witnessed much of the situation.

“I heard some noise, so I went out there to see what was going on, and there were probably about four cop cruisers in our back alley, so I was a little afraid,” Paulson said. “I just stood there and asked the officer what was going on, and he said, ‘Just stand back.'”

Paulson said he saw one of the officers pull a suspect’s hand gun out of a trash can in the alley.

Although Teasley and Crump have been linked to Monday’s robberies, Kirby said there is an ongoing investigation surrounding the case, and the Columbus Police Department is looking into possible connections to similar crimes in the surrounding area.

“There was the series of those three last night, but there have been others that have occurred over the last several weeks in that area,” Kirby said.

Kirby could not say whether the suspects were involved in the other robberies but said there is a strong possibility they are linked.

Columbus Police Sgt. Sean Laird said the bail for the two suspects was posted Monday, but he didn’t know whether Teasley or Crump posted bail.
