The Buckeyes benefited from losses by Utah, Alabama and Oklahoma.

Oregon maintained its No. 1 ranking, while Auburn stayed at No. 2. TCU, which beat Utah 47-7, held onto its spot at No. 3, and Boise State stayed at No. 4.

With its 24-21 win over defending BCS Champion Alabama, LSU moved up to No. 5.

Stanford made perhaps the most significant leap, rising seven spots to No. 6. The Cardinal beat Arizona 42-17 on Saturday.

Wisconsin, the highest-ranked Big Ten team, moved up to No. 7.

Nebraska edged Iowa State 31-30 after the Cyclones failed to convert what would have been a game-winning two-point conversion. The Cornhuskers slipped one spot to No. 8.
