A director with multiple Oscar nominations to his name will come out from behind the camera to speak to Ohio State students.

The Ohio Union Activities Board announced Wednesday that Lee Daniels is scheduled to lecture OSU students in “The Man Behind the Lens: Lee Daniels” 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at Ohio Union’s Archie M. Griffin East Ballroom.

Daniels is a Hollywood producer and director who has produced seven major films within the last 13 years, including 2001’s “Monster’s Ball,” 2009’s “Precious” and 2013’s “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.”

Daniels is openly gay and candid about the physical abuse he endured from his father throughout his childhood. Much of his work tackles difficult topics, with special interest in the issues of race and domestic violence.

Tickets for the event are set to be released 5 p.m. Monday at the Ohio Union Information Center and are free for OSU Columbus campus students with a valid BuckID.
