Drums Downtown

OSU School of Music to get down with drum performance

The Ohio State School of Music will present Drums Downtown IX, featuring the music of Steve Reich, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Riffe Center's Capitol Theatre. The annual event will be highlighting students selected from the OSU Percussion Ensemble, choreographers and performers from the OSU Department of Dance, and instrumentalists and vocalists from the OSU School of Music. Commentary: Adele stylish, Nicki Minaj styleless at Grammys

The 54th annual Grammy Awards took place Sunday, and as always, there were the stylish and the styleless. The Grammys celebrate achievement in the music industry, but like any red carpet event, it is also a night for fashion. Adele tops the stylish chart with her black, floor-length Giorgio Armani gown, which had a boat-neck and three-quarter-length sleeves. Full story

Pattycake, pattycake, baker's vegan woman. Pattycake Bakery's vegan treats are so tasty, the old nursery rhyme should be reworded in its honor. Jennie Scheinbach opened Pattycake Bakery, located at 3009 N. High St., in May 2005. Pattycake Bakery uses organic ingredients, whole grains, no animal products and no hydrogenated oils, so its baked goods aren't nearly as sinful as they taste. Full story

Not only have they been hailed as great musicians, but they all toured with saxophonist Gene Walker, who calls Columbus home. Nascent Short North Stage reaches into past for ‘Wonderettes’

The Short North Stage is offering the chance to travel into the past, sans a time machine, in its production of "The Marvelous Wonderettes." The show opens at 8 p.m. Thursday and will run through March 4. "The Marvelous Wonderettes" is the first full musical and second full production at the Garden Theatre since it re-opened in October. No ‘Wowowow’ factor for mediocre Cursive album

Hailing from the Great Plains, Nebraskan post-hardcore rock band Cursive has released "I Am Gemini," its seventh album of eeriness and punk. This new record, however, is a concept record. As "Rolling Stone" reported last week, it is based around the story of twins Cassius and Pollock, who were separated at birth. Full story
