Mark ‘Blazor’ Smith (left) and Maurice ‘Mo’ Jovan (right), former hosts of WRKZ’s ‘Blazor and Mo In the Morning,’ have departed Columbus for WEBN in Cincinnati.

On Monday, some of Columbus' most popular morning radio show hosts made their debut in a new market under a new name.

The duo, previously referred to as "Blazor and Mo in the Morning" on 99.7 "The Blitz" WRKZ, began their residency under the name "Mark and Mo in the Morning," on Clear Channel's 102.7 WEBN in Cincinnati.

After personal issues with the company, Maurice "Mo" Jovan left WRKZ, owned by North American Broadcasting Company, Inc., near the end of 2011. Within the last few weeks, the second half of the morning show, Mark "Blazor" Smith, left too. The sudden loss of on-air talent left fans across the city angered, some of whom lashed out toward the station via social media networks such as Facebook.

However, much to fans' approval, the pair recently reunited and announced their new show earlier this month, which began airing Monday. The show is scheduled to air Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. on WEBN, though local fans can still tune in using the iHeartRadio.com and its phone app.

Smith said he is still in shock over the opportunity he has been given, and said radio is "like breathing" for him.

"This is still like a dream for me, I'm pinching myself," Smith said. "It is nothing like ‘The Blitz.' As a matter of fact, getting into Clear Channel and being a part of this well-oiled machine … ‘The Blitz' is like a fake radio station to me now. I honed my craft and everything else there but I now have seen what real radio is like, and it's vastly different than what I've come up on. It's unbelievable."

WRKZ did not respond to four phone calls and two email requests for comment.

Having spent nearly two decades at WRKZ, Smith said he realized that his dream to desire more could become a reality with his new employer.

"I know I'm going into a building that really is behind Mo and I," Smith said. "They are 100 million percent behind Mo and I and what we are doing. They believe in us."

Smith said he is excited for the amount of exposure they will receive. He said six different departments are helping to get the ball rolling, and in addition to online advertising, they will be featured in television commercials.

"We have a lot of people," Smith said. "I really feel like we're going to be really successful because we have an enormous support staff there. It's so amazing, man. I am in awe that I am a part of this. It's really crazy dude. I can't tell you how crazy."

When Smith tried to promote his show at WRKZ out of his own pocket, he said the station's management took issue.

"We were told by the management, how dare we just go and do that on our own and advertise our show, and to immediately put a stop to it and (they) said, ‘Don't you ever do that again or you'll be taken off the air. You may be let go at that point,'" Smith said. "I sat across from my PD (program director) and said to him, ‘All we're trying to do is advertise our show and get more listeners, that is all we are trying to do. We're not trying to one-up anybody, we're not trying to do something without permission, we're just trying to advertise our show,' because we live and die by the ratings and we're trying to get more people listening to us because I know we can get more people listening that would like us."

Even after all these years, Smith said he still wakes up eager to go to work because he gets to "have fun for a living."

"The passion that I have has not went away even though I've been in the business 22 years — 22 consecutive years — the passion is still there," Smith said. "When I got a taste of radio, forget it man, that was it.  That is like … so unbelievable, when it gets in you, in your blood, you know what you're meant to do when it starts happening like that. One-hundred-thousand-million percent, I go, ‘This is it, this is what I'm supposed to be doing,' the first time I talked on the air."

Representatives from WEBN said they are excited to house Mark and Mo.

"We are excited to launch an engaging and compelling morning show that appeals to the listeners of the Tri-state area," said Casey Krukowski, WEBN program director, in a statement. "Mark and Mo are real, relatable and funny. The show will feature a combination of topical conversation, listener interaction, news, sports, weather and the best rock music on Cincinnati Radio."

Oh Mo....how I've missed you're open letters. Even though I don't get to hear you guys any more, I'm ecstatic to know that you guys are together! You are hilarious and entertaining and all of us *former* Blitz listeners are the ones suffering for it. I've turned to 97.9 in the mornings. I feel sad for me.

Way to go Mark & Mo! I have been streaming them from Cinci since the start...WEBN is a "REAL ROCK STATION!" I know exactly what you mean when you say you can't get a call back from the Blitz....I've left messages for different people at the station regarding different things & no one ever calls you back! At least Mark & Mo taunt you on air or on FB! LOVE THEM!!!!

Really WRKZ not airing crap out, thats why that Jackwagon Hal"smells like rotten" Fish was running his mouth on air, trying to feed his lame a&^ excuses over the whole situation. You're just pissed off that the Fish has lost a huge fan base, and that Blazor and Mo took them all. Your station sucks. Its lame. WEBN is a hell of a lot better, and doesnt play the same continous crap hour after hour. Get over yourself. Youre not even man enough to post as yourself. Anonymous dumbass.

Both sides need to put diapers on and suck bottles. That's about as childish as it gets in this pissing match. High road equals knowing when to STFU!!

I sure hope Blazor & Mo enjoy working for Cheap Channel who voice track in just about every market they can, cut costs everywhere more so than any radio group I have ever worked for.
I don't care if it's a big market like LA or a medium sized market like Cincy they're the epitome of cheapness and to call it a "well oiled machine" is a laugh and a half unless you like getting micromanaged to hell.
It all sounded like sour grapes to me from Blazor and as a 20+ year broadcasting vet it's sad to see someone who feels they have to bash their former employer because they thought it was time to move on.
I'll also say that most radio company's discourage jocks from "promoting their show out of their pocket" because that jock an anyone on their show not only represent the show but the station too.
It's not THEIR FCC license on the line, they didn't invest the money to buy the station, the station has EVERY right to control the public face of their station just like anyone business would demand from it's employees.

I was a listener of The Blamo show like it was my job. Well it kinda was. This show actually inspired me to get into radio and i have done just that. I heard all the arguments on air and recall them like they happened yesterday, I was that drawn into the show. I also had the pleasure of moving Mo's old partner in crime, the first time Mo was in Columbus Ohio, Grego was his name-o. I moved him after he was fired from The Blitz. We had some interesting conversations that day.All I will say is what I hear of The Blitz is I know that the Four Best radio personalities I know of, no longer work there for reasons that are smoke, false, unclear or down right personal on a professional level.

Personally, I am glad there were no quotes from the Blitz. It would be all lies anyway. F--- that station. I got kicked off the Blitz FB page recently & had my comments deleted because I chose to speak my mind- not about Blamo, but The Metal Shop!! Regardless, it shows that they don't give a s--- about their listeners, what their listeners want & what they want to hear!! There is no such thing as "Your Rock Station" and there never was. That station is going to h3ll. I'm very happy for Blazor & Mo & hope they find success at WEBN :)
PS: Way to go "Anonymous" (comment below Mo). Too big of a p---y to say who you really are, huh?? LOLLLL

What makes the "Anonymous" retort so funny is that they actually think that WEBN even needs to get a list of Mark or Mo's fans or friends. We all followed and supported both of them on our own and were all thrilled when they announced they were getting back together. The only other thing I could wish for is a little less music in the morning and a little more Mark and Mo.

Wow, what another lame PR attempt from the Blitz. They need to just let it go! They failed at keeping two out of the 3 Best Radio Show hosts in town (Mark the Shark is #3.) While I'm sure they will continue to play music on the radio they will never be the channel they were. Either way more power to Mark and Mo! The Blitz is el sucko anymore...

If there is any inconsistency with what the article had to say then why is The Blitz representative "anonymous?" Who hides in the shadows but the cowardly or the guilty? I was one half the team of Blazor and Mo (yes, as many pointed out, the handsome black fellow) and every word every punctuation and every insinuation that the management of The Blitz mistreated, mishandled and misappropriated form OUR, that's right Blitz, OUR, (Blazor and I's) show is true! Anonymous. Really? Even now in the light of the Lantern you can't admit that you f***ed up in losing us because instead of wanting to have stars you want to have slaves?!

Anonymous? Really? Why? It can only be one of three people that posted the comment because I know the three that run The Blitz, a trio I'd like to refer to as a confederacy of dunces. The owner, the program director and the president of sales. So which one of you geniuses that in two years has managed to take a triumphant return from The Rock back to The Blitz back to the ratings cellar and failure that was The Rock?

You call yourself "respectable" when you service mark OUR names behind OUR back and OUR catch-phrase "Blamo" of which you had no involvement in the conception? You call yourself respectable when the program director gets ON AIR and lies about knowledge of vacation days that led to my resignation? (Lie on this blog and I will gladly produce the proof!) You call yourselves respectable when you cultivate and atmosphere of fear and intimidation to keep your employees in line instead of respect and reward?! No wonder you want to remain anonymous. Who could call Nabco respectable with a straight face and not have everyone see them laughing if they were not anonymous.

Don't talk about MY agenda. I said nothing in this article though I agree with everything said! You trio of fools want people that work for you to be grateful for the mere fact that they are employed, typified by the attitude Blazor and I received upon being hired for the second time which was "You're welcome for us giving you another shot but shut up and do it how we tell you to" when your attitude should have been to kiss our asses for saving yours from your OWN monumentally dumb decision!

After all this time, you idiots still don't know not to get me involved in a war of words because you will lose. Will you EVER learn? My name is MAURICE JOVAN and I approved this message!

This is journalistic propaganda at its finest.

Mr. Howard, you sir should be ashamed of yourself. 4 phone calls and 2 emails? really? WRKZ was made aware of this article because of a post that you made on its facebook page looking for Blazor and Mo FANS... which by the way, were instructed to PM you, which was not possible due to your FB privacy settings. A lame attempt of contact was made on Saturday night to one of WRKZ's DJ's thru FB.. are you counting that as one of your "emails"? really?... a FB message late on a Saturday night? ...for a Monday 3pm deadline?

WRKZ immediately contacted your editor, only then did you actually make contact, which was surprisingly easy huh? unfortunately (or conveniently) your deadline was up...certainly, you didn't want WRKZ comment, that would not serve yours, or Mark and Mo's agenda... which was to promote their new show and shine a negative light on WRKZ.

Despite what Mr. Jovan and Mr. Smith would like you to believe, WRKZ is a respectable local media company (much like your newspaper) and does not have the luxury of airing its grievances out on FB, in an attempt to skew facts and get their fans to form a preconceived opinion about a matter.

Should you feel the need to get a statement from WRKZ, You should at least try... you may get a response, but maybe not. You should have got it right the first time. Not saying that any facts here are "blatantly" false, other than the statement that WRKZ was offered a request for comment and didn't respond... but then again, did you really want it?
