Ohio attorney general resigns

Facing possible impeachment, Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann resigned amid the scandal of a sexual harassment investigation in his office and his extramarital affair.

Dann, 46 and a Democrat, led the state on a 10-day odyssey, at first refusing to resign despite demands by Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland and others within his party, a growing number of investigations into conduct at his office and the filing Tuesday of articles of impeachment against him.

Dann, appearing beside Strickland, said it was necessary to leave to preserve the ability of the office to carry out the priorities he established.
People will march and chant on campus streets tonight, advocating an end to violence against women.

But no men will be present during the march, and only women's voices will be heard.

Take Back the Night is an international event to raise awareness of rape and sexual violence against women and children and is held annually at Ohio State.
The responsibility of birth control has fallen on females since its invention.

But a range of birth control methods now being tested suggest that society is putting more responsibility on males when it comes to using protection, according to Katye Miller, a coordinator at the Student Wellness Center.
Sometimes championships do not define a program. While they might seem like the ultimate sports measuring stick, the ability for a team to improve, consistently building upon past successes, might outweigh even the largest trophies.

The Ohio State women's gymnastics team concluded their 2008 season ranked 18th in the nation, continuing their recent pattern of progress. In 2005, when this year's seniors were freshmen, the Buckeyes finished No. 38. The team climbed to No. 27 in 2006 and No. 19 last year.

Former coaches Casey Fredericks and Chris Ford still support the wrestling team, decades after they passed on the title of head coach. The coaches lend their resources to the team both financially and through interactions with wrestlers and coaching staff.

"It's meant to just open people's eyes up to the fact that the use of hemp and any like products is not the evil thing that it's portrayed as being," said Students for Sensible Drug Policy vice president Zach Laver, a sophomore in plant biology.
Weed, pot, hash, grass, hemp - all have been used as nicknames for marijuana. As studies increase, however, it turns out hemp and marijuana might not have as much in common as people think.

While technically a single species, Cannabis sativa - better known as marijuana - has evolved over the years to present two very different plants: industrial hemp used for its fiber and typical marijuana harvested for its hallucinogenic properties.
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. That's how Shakespeare put it. In other words, a rose is a rose is a rose.

Apparently this truism no longer applies in today's climate of nearly tri-partisan politics. People keep talking about Hillary Clinton acting as a pre-emptive spoiler by staying in the game. I thought that was ridiculous just a few weeks ago, before I'd heard of people so set against Obama that they would rather vote for John McCain.
Exposing ethanol's dark side

For every one of you who believes we can fix global warming with more government "solutions," I have sad news for you: Santa isn't real either.

Al Gore and other environmentalists were ecstatic when the U.S. government agreed it was a smart idea to force people to mix ethanol into gasoline. I'm sure their intentions were good (except for the fact that good ole Al just happens to own a whole lot of stock in agribusinesses). The idea that we can "grow" gas sounds exciting, and so does the idea that we can rely less on imported oil, reduce carbon dioxide emissions and save the planet in the process.
From a mile a way, the Drama Queen/King can be seen, with a trail of chaos reigning behind them. But the inclination to be dramatic involves more than volatile emotions and the desire to control. It is considered an addiction - a hook on adrenaline.
Sen. Barack Obama, who late last week surpassed Sen. Hillary Clinton in pledged superdelegates, appealed to West Virginians this week after a substantial victory in North Carolina and a narrow loss in Indiana May 6. Although we do not know at the time of this editorial's writing the outcome of yesterday's less-than-pivotal West Virginia primary, a surprise win by Obama, who has been slated to lose the state, might just be the cataclysmic signal to Clinton that what was once hers is no longer.
