Steve Stivers helped Republicans regain control of the U.S. House after Republicans lost it in 2006 for the first time since 1994.

After Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy beat Stivers by 1 percentage point in the 15th District congressional race in 2008, Stivers defeated Kilroy in Tuesday's election.

"The 15th (District) has always been one of the hottest, nastiest races in the country," said Kevin Freeman, program manager for the Politics, Society and Law Scholars at Ohio State.

When Stivers took the Republican election party stage at 11:06 p.m. at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Columbus, he said, "After the last election, frankly, I wasn't sure I wanted to run again.

"But I couldn't stand by and later look my daughter in the eye and say I didn't do anything to stop it."

Stivers alluded to repealing the Obama administration's health care legislation and turning around national debt.

At the Democratic convention at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Columbus, Kilroy told the crowd that it's "time for us to have a gut-check here … about where our country is really going."

Stivers served as state senator from January 2003 until December 2008.

Numerous errors in the article. In addition to small things like the party locations, Stiver is not in favor of repealing the healthcare bill. All together, another poor article from the lantern.

Just a correction. The Democrat election party was at the Hyatt Regency and the Republicans were at the Renaissance. And Perry, Stivers won. No point to wait to call something that has already been decided.

I think it is pretty clear the voters have rejected Kilroy and her policies. Kammerer and Ryon had less than 5% combined of the vote so I don't know what you are wanting to wait for. It is time to move on and hopefully the members of Congress will now start to actually work together to pay off our national debt before we all are working for China.

Cite evidence or any sources for this declaration, please.
Cite exit polls, a board of elections website, something, anything.

There are no official elections results yet that show a winner. Nor should there be a winner declared before all of the paper and provisional ballots cast have been enumerated (and there is a difference between paper ballots and provisional ballots), or before all other candidates concede the election.
There are other candidates in addition to Kilroy and Stivers. There are William Kammerer and and David Ryon, neither of whom have conceded the election.

How accurate is it to report on a winner and a defeat before official elections results actually exist?
