Accepted students can work as freelancers for COMM 423 and earn course credits working side by side with experienced Lantern majors. The course includes on-the-job training, guest speakers, and workshops tailored to students at various skill levels.

Spring brings free RPAC fitness classes

Fitness classes that previously cost $50 per quarter will now be free for all students beginning Spring Quarter. The Council on Student Affairs worked with Recreation Sports to determine exactly where the $82 per quarter fee goes, and found that it did not go toward one specific student service.

Medical Center renamed in honor of Leslie Wexner

As the banner for the newly renamed Wexner Medical Center was unveiled, Leslie H. Wexner wiped tears from his eyes as "Carmen Ohio" was sung in the background. Wexner, an Ohio State alumnus, was honored Friday with the renaming of the Ohio State Medical Center to Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University.

Program created to combat crime hike

In response to a number of armed robberies in the campus area Autumn Quarter, including one in a campus building, the university has invested in safety through the creation of several programs. At Ohio State's Board of Trustees meeting Thursday, Javaune Adams-Gaston, vice president of the Office of Student Life, and Jay Kasey, senior vice president for administration and planning, discussed improvements in safety because of "the unusual hike" in off-campus crimes last quarter.

Compliance office created to improve integrity at Ohio State

After several months of planning and discussing a university-wide compliance program, Ohio State will create a new office called the Office of University Compliance and Integrity. Friday, the Ohio State Board of Trustees unanimously approved the plan, which was sparked after a year-long NCAA investigation into the university's Athletic Department, including compliance.

Non-profit organization provides normality, retreat for Nationwide Children’s patients

Four years ago, Amanda Knapp tried to find a part-time job through a babysitting service in Columbus, Ohio, to pay her way through college, but she never heard back from the agency. Morris sentenced to 24 years in prison for abduction attempts

A man charged in attempting to abduct two women at knifepoint near the Ohio State Medical Center in August was sentenced Thursday to 24 years in prison. David Phillip Morris, 45, pleaded guilty in December to charges of kidnapping and aggravated robbery and said the attacks were sexually motivated.

Students campaign for President Obama’s birth control decision

The central mandate of President Barack Obama's decision to require most employers to cover birth control and insurers to offer it at no cost has been a controversial issue affecting many. Three different Ohio State organizations, Voices for Planned Parenthood, Women and Allies Rising in Resistance and Ohio Feminists for Representation, took the issue into their own hands by campaigning on the Oval Thursday.

US to be most ‘vibrant economy in the world,’ Joe Biden says

In the year 2030, America will still have the most "vibrant economy in the world." Vice President Joe Biden assured journalists attending the Ohio Newspaper Association Convention 2012 that jobs will come back to the nation. "With or without (President) Barack Obama and Joe Biden, I am absolutely convinced that America is better positioned than any other country in the world to be the leading economy in the world at providing Americans with decent jobs," Biden said.

Ohio State's 39-game home winning streak halted with poor shooting

Entering Saturday's contest against conference foe Michigan State, the Ohio State men's basketball team was one of the premiere shooting teams in the country. The Buckeyes came into the matchup ranked 10th in Division I, shooting 49.1 percent from the field.

Ohio State hockey's 11-game winless skid snapped against Western Michigan

Commentary: Sullinger needs to stay calm for Buckeyes to succeed

Michigan State men's basketball coach Tom Izzo pitied Ohio State Jared Sullinger after Saturday's game. After helping guide MSU to a 58-48 win against the Buckeyes, Izzo made an obvious statement, saying that Sullinger faces an increased scoring burden when his Buckeye teammates, like senior guard William Buford and sophomore forward Deshaun Thomas, who shot a combined 4-of-24 from the field, struggle to score.

Ohio State women's basketball beats Boilermakers

After suffering its third loss of the season to Illinois on Thursday, the No. 10 Ohio State women's basketball team (22-3, 9-3 Big Ten) bounced back with an 80-71 win against the No. 16 Purdue Boilermakers (19-6, 9-3 Big Ten) Sunday. Sporting pinks socks and shoes to support breast cancer awareness, OSU trailed for the majority of the first period, which included a seven point deficit with 4:34 left in the half.

Spartans spoil Ohio State's home win streak, beat Buckeyes

The Ohio State men's basketball team suffered its first home loss of the season Saturday, as Michigan State out-muscled the Buckeyes for a 58-48 win. The loss snapped a 39-game home win streak for OSU and dropped the Buckeyes into a tie atop the Big Ten standings.
