A year after an up-and-down season that ended with eight wins and four losses, the Ohio State football team started spring practice with just one goal in mind: a national championship. "We know what we're expected to do this year," junior defensive back Donte Whitner said. "We're expected to go to the national championship, and we have a good team."
The Ohio State men's lacrosse team has a new plan of attack as it heads to Durham, North Carolina Saturday to face No. 2 Duke. "We spent this week watching a lot of films and putting in new wrinkles on offense and defense to come up with a good gameplan to beat Duke," junior midfielder Andrew Bender said. "We just need to play hard for four quarters, not let up, and stick to the game plan which we haven't done recently, and we should be competitive all game."
The Ohio State fencing team fell just 2 points shy of defending its national championship from last season 173-171 to Notre Dame March 20 at the 2005 NCAA Championship in Houston. "We were very disappointed with the outcome, and as coaches we saw our athletes prepare and everyone was ready and gave 100 percent," assistant coach Terrence Lasker said. "They did a good job so they shouldn't be worried about their finish, and it isn't like we can scold our players because everyone did their best, but we will definitely be back next year."
Although some students play recreational ping-pong at Jesse Owens South, four members of the Ohio State table tennis club will travel to Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas, to compete in the National Collegiate Table Tennis Team Championships this weekend. Frank Charvet, the club president, Jacob Mathew, an MBA student, Ender Cigeroglu, a master's student in mechanical engineering, and Michael Yao, a freshman in electrical engineering, will represent OSU in the team competition.
Mark McGuire refused to answer many questions when testifying in front of Congress, leaving the media and the public to pick through his statements to try to find any facts or truths. There were not many, but I believe I found at least one.
This weekend the No. 3 Ohio State women's crew team will take on another highly ranked competitor in its second regatta of the season. The Buckeyes will travel tomorrow to Ann Arbor, Mich., where they will face No. 5 Michigan on its home water at Lake Belleville. The Buckeyes will enter this regatta as the Big Ten Boat of the Week, receiving the honors after victories over Duke and Virginia last weekend.
