Brutus Buckeye will not be the only common fixture at Ohio State ahtletic events during the coming years. Monday Nationwide announced a multi-year sponsorship of all 36 varsity sports at OSU. During a press conference outside Ohio Stadium, OSU's Director of Athletics Gene Smith put to rest rumors that the sponsorship would result in renaming Ohio Stadium and lauded the sponsorship as a "win-win partnership." Nationwide will donate an unspecified amount of money to OSU as part of the agreement. Amy Shore, Nationwide Insurance's regional vice president of Ohio and West Virginia, said the amount was in the multi-millions. As part of the partnership, Nationwide's logo will appear on signs throughout Ohio Stadium, as well as the back of tickets, sports schedule cards and posters.
The American Red Cross was out for blood Monday the Schottenstein Center Monday for its summer donation blood drive. Between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 126 donors came to give a pint of blood each to help patients in need, said Shannon Niemeyer, donor recruitment representative for Ohio State.
For 549 students last week, each day at the Ohio State University began in Independence Hall with waving hands, twisting torsos, shaking bodies and buzzing lips. But these 549 students were not OSU students.
Ohio State has been ranked No. 10 in the nation for public research according to the National Science Foundation's latest ranking of academic research and development expenditures at universities and colleges.
Since its inception in 2001 the fledgling Ohio Avian Ecology and Conservation Conference has had the goal of bringing in scholars from universities in and around Ohio, but most consistently brings in researchers and presenters from Ohio State, said organizer Dave Scott.
