About 3,000 Ohio State sophomores live off-campus. Strictly speaking, that is against university policy.

OSU president E. Gordon Gee recently announced his intent to mandate all sophomores live in campus housing.

Unidentity gives face to University District

Block O banners suspended from lamp posts and archways curving over streets might adorn the University District by 2009.

This is part of a new plan developed by a group of Ohio State students. They call it the "Unidentity Project," an effort to define the boundaries of the University District and to make people feel more welcome when they enter it.

Ohio State students Rod Swain and Colin Peters and Columbus Academy senior Zachary Peters are much more than just a few guys selling rubber bracelets for a cause.

They have a story to tell.

And this story is of a life-changing experience they took part in while volunteering at Casa Mantay, a safe haven for Peruvian girls and families impacted by sexual abuse and rape.

Language proficiency decreases among Latino groups, according to study

Many second and third-generation Hispanics do no speak Spanish.

"As the generations pass, many Hispanics lose their Spanish and I'm definitely an example of that," said Amanda Marquez, a junior in international studies and student associate for Hispanic student services at Ohio State.

This week in Ohio State history

Streamlined applications and an increase in the activities of the Student Information Program might be responsible for a rise in the number of freshman applications for autumn quarter 1974, said Edward E. Rhine, director of administrations.

"As of Feb. 4, we were 823 applications ahead of last year's applications at this time," Rhine said.
