For the last few weeks, all the rage has been about Thomas Beatie, better known as the Pregnant Man. The story was too good to be true, but it is. Beatie, who used to be a woman, is now legally a man and decided to carry a child instead of his wife, who is no longer able to. What surprised me most was not the media coverage of the story but a reaction I received last week. I had a conversation with a man three times my age and he said he was appalled by Beatie's decision to go through with it and that he owes everyone a glimpse of what he looks like naked (his words, not mine). The man was shocked at how open-minded my generation had become, and how this would have never happened when he was my age (again, his words). Although I don't have the same beliefs as the old man, I do believe today's society - including the mainstream media - has made strides to be more accepting and tolerant of differences, but we still have a long way to go. The Lantern commends Beatie for sharing his life with the world and trying to educate us all on the trials of transgendered people. The Lantern also extends our support to the transgendered community at Ohio State.

There are some things that just aren't natural, and trans-gendered people are one of them.

You can refer to this guy as a "pregnant man" all you want but let's be honest here. This is a "pregnant woman". No mystery or excitement there. The fact that he has had surgery to assume a male appearance doesn't alter reality. (Continued…)

Perhaps the headline for the article should have read
"woman who looks like a man becomes pregnant"
whats most interesting in my opinion is that she (the pregnant woman) chose not to have her reproductive organs altered or removed according to her cnn interview. (Continued…)

This a confused pregnant WOMAN who needs help. Help that only God can give her. The media and world around her should state the truth that there is nothing unusal about a woman being pregnant and stop lying about her being a man!

I still don't understand how the male hormones he has to take are safe for the baby. Either his ovaries are still producing female hormones or else he is taking supplemental female hormones as well to sustain the pregnancy. (Continued…)

All I can say is there's tons of explaining to the child once he/she grows up and finds out more about his/her birth. I don't know, but sometimes it's very selfish for people to socially experiment without thinking of the consequences to the child. (Continued…)

As a transgendered girl, I know what I'm talking about and I feel I have an obligation to say this:
Andrew: You say it's "not natural". Ok. Well, tell me what your gender is. (Continued…)

I thought that "gender" describes the social construct. Like girls play with dolls and grow up to be secretaries and boys play with cars and grow up to be doctors. (Continued…)
