Somali garden grows life lessons
The arrival of spring inspired some Ohio State students to spend their time outdoors performing community service in a local community garden Friday.

OSU Kid Corps, a program assisting preschoolers and their families in low-income areas, volunteered at the Horn of Africa Community Garden located in Capital Park housing project. The garden is run by volunteers and members of the neighborhood, which is home to 97 percent Somali refugees.

Senate talks Medical Center's future

Ohio State's Medical Center will add two new towers that will house a cancer center and a critical care center and will cost about $1.2 billion, said Wiley Souba, dean of the College of Medicine.

At the University Senate meeting Thursday, Souba presented the current status and future plans that include expansion of the Medical Center, more scholarship opportunities for students and a goal to increase OSU's rank among other medical schools in the nation.

Capturing small children's attention can be a challenge, which is why Kate Tierney decided to start her class with an unusual tactic.

"I was looking for a way to engage my third-grade class," said Tierney, a graduate student in earth science. "I started with mealworms."

"Get Out Her Vote" rocks Ohio State

Ohio State students, recent graduates and established female leaders rallied behind a common cause on Saturday - educating college-age students, especially women, about the issues at stake in this year's election.

"Get Out Her Vote: Ohio Summit," a one-day conference, took place in Mendenhall Laboratory and was hosted by the Feminist Majority Foundation, the nation's largest feminist organization that works for women's equality, reproductive rights and non-violence.

Campus News Briefs

Beginning April 28, the Tuttle parking lot will be closed permanently. The lot will close due to the construction of the Lane Avenue Parking garage and the Student Academic Services building, resulting in the loss of 400 parking spaces. Information on alternate parking and the new "Tuttle Shuttle" route is available online through Transportation and Parking.
