Williams named commencement speaker

Live from Ohio State - it's Brian Williams.

The NBC news anchor, past host of Saturday Night Live and one of Time's most influential people of 2006, will be OSU's spring commencement speaker.

"It's nice to have someone more impartial, but he's got a sense of humor," said Matt Proctor, a senior in theatre. "I think he's a good choice; he's got poise and he's likable."

"That's kind of exciting, it's different from the normal politician or company CEO. ... It would've been cool if it had been (Barack) Obama but obviously that's not going to happen," said Kristin Rude, a senior in English.

Proposed tuition increase minimal

Ohio State tuition will soon be more expensive for some students.

The Board of Trustees recently proposed a five percent tuition increase for graduate and non-Ohio resident students.

Along with the proposed tuition rise, the Fiscal Affairs Committee recommended a hike in room and board fees of 6 percent. Students will also to pay $1 more in Recreation and Physical Activity Center fees next fall.

OSU graduate wins third Pulitzer Prize

Before going on to win three Pulitzer Prizes, the turning point in Walt Bogdanich's successful journalism career came when he was a student at Ohio State.

While working on his master's degree in journalism, Bogdanich heard Bob Green, who he calls "the founder of modern investigative reporting," give a lecture at OSU.

Library traffic swarms SEL

As far as libraries go, Ackerman Library does not break with the tradition of silence. One might even say it is too quiet for a campus library.

"We thought everyone would come out here," said Jim Bracken, assistant director for Collections, Instructions and Public Services.

This week in Ohio State history

By the time high school sophomores are ready to come to Ohio State, they may be able to live anywhere they choose, instead of being confined to the University's dormitories for two years.

John P. Nelson, assistant vice president for residence and dining halls, told students Thursday the University is planning to eliminate the mandatory dorm-residence requirement within three years.
