Sunny 75-degree weather and clear, blue skies - for some students, it is almost impossible to resist the temptation to skip class.

Lately the Oval has been crowded with people throwing Frisbees, riding bicycles, tanning and studying.

Job market positive for grads despite economic slowdown

As graduation day looms closer, many seniors are beginning to seriously contemplate the realities of the real world, complete with that ubiquitous leap onto the bottom rungs of the corporate ladder. With the economy showing signs of recession, however, entering the job market is not necessarily an encouraging prospect.

"Economic growth has declined in the last nine months and businesses are wrestling with the question of whether or not they should be hiring," said Stephen Mangum, interim dean of the Max M. Fisher College of Business and professor of management of human resources.

Some of the hottest games and gaming systems hit the South Oval Tuesday afternoon.

"I love soccer and any time or way I can play soccer is good for me," said Matthew Larson, a freshman in business. He got the chance to play "Pro Evolution Soccer 2008" with several other Ohio State gamers watching and waiting their chance.

Student projects bring disability issues to light

Esther Ortiz-Castillo applied her life-long interest in aquatics to her research, targeting the local pools to see how many were accessible for people with disabilities.

"I've always been involved in aquatics as a swimmer and I've taught lessons," said Ortiz-Castillo, a graduate student in adaptive education. "I want other people to experience the same thing. Sometimes they can't, though, because the facilities aren't accessible."

Grad student looks back at time on Board
Christopher Alvarez-Breckenridge is not a typical Ohio State student. The graduate student gets to schmooze with the likes of Les Wexner and Robert Schottenstein and be a part of discussions such as the hiring of President E. Gordon Gee and multi-million dollar construction projects.

Alvarez-Breckenridge spent two years as the graduate student member of the Board of Trustees and recently attended his last meeting.

Earth Week peaks at park
