Coach Doug Kay wanted to get his message across to his players in the locker room after the Destroyers lost 76-55 to the Philadelphia Soul Monday.
"Go home and come back with some heart," Kay said he told his players. "I'm not seeing people who care. We have to come back ready to play football and find ways to win and I think we can do that. There's enough talent on the team."
After the bye week, the Destroyers (2-6) have eight games left.
"The first half of the season, we stunk it up," defensive back Nate Coggins said. "That's why we play 16 games. We got eight games left and we put our efforts together and come together as a team. Anything is possible."
Even though Kay realizes that the Destroyers need to start winning some games to stay in the playoff hunt, he does not think it is panic time yet.
"I never think it's panic time in athletics," Kay said. "We walk on the football field right now and there isn't enough feeling about what is right, and what has to be done, and what level we have to play at."
After the first half, the Soul led 42-35 and Kay was impressed with how the Destroyers played.
However, the Destroyers came out flat in the second half and paid the consequences.
"It's a mental thing," wide receiver C.J. Johnson said. "We got to make sure we stay focus (sic) all the times because you don't know what could happen. They could start throwing interceptions and be right back in the game. We got to stay focus (sic)."
