Slide Show: Heritage Fest fosters unity
Brooklyn Wilkinson and Stephane Lewis-White thought the question - "Why do you think the Heritage Festival is important?" - was funny.

To these festival volunteers, the answer is a no-brainer.

"People come from many different areas where there are no African-Americans at all," said Wilkinson, a sophomore in pre-nursing. "This is a chance to learn about our heritage."

"It's not about what's going on now; it's about where you come from," said Lewis-White, a sophomore in psychology, chiming in. "You discover your purpose."

Former OSU player charged with assault

Former Ohio State football player Derrick Foster was charged with shooting two Columbus police officers Wednesday night.

Foster, 38, and Michael T. Gravely, 19, are charged with two counts of felonious assault and two counts of attempted murder for the shootings of Officers John Gillis, 48, and Anthony Garrison, 44, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

In the first meeting under its newly-elected leadership, Undergraduate Student Government senate appointed a new speaker and steering committee.

After the lengthy meeting, President Peter Koltak, elected two weeks ago, said he was pleased with the new administration.

Bad Checks - OSU Bookstore

A staff member reporting the passing of bad checks at the Ohio State Bookstore Friday.

Theft - South Medical Parking Garage Theft from a car was reported to University Police Friday. According to the police report stolen items included a Global positioning system, a change purse, an MP3 player, headphones and a CD case.

Speaker links occult, TV

Religion, the occult, science fiction and other mysterious topics remain fashionable in popular culture post-Sept. 11, and one visiting professor attempted to find out why.

Lynn Schofield Clark, an assistant professor and director of the Estlow International Center for Journalism and New Media at the University of Denver, gave a presentation Wednesday at the Wexner Center. Her presentation ended a lecture series about public interest in the occult and was sponsored by Ohio State's Center for the Study of Religion.

Group raises funds for charity

Sarah Watson is willing to do whatever it takes to help lead the Ambassadors Club, even if it means eating some tasty strawberry sherbet in a waffle cone.

"When I took over we didn't have a whole lot of people and most of our ideas were just ideas," said the junior in human nutrition. "We didn't follow through with much, so when I stepped in I encouraged as much actual participation as I could."
