Crystal meth found in home of OSU chief housing officer

An Ohio State spokeswoman said the university's housing interim vice president for student affairs and chief housing officer has been suspended with pay while officials look into police allegations that he possessed crystal methamphetamine.

Authorities said Franklin County sheriff's deputies found a bag containing an ounce of the highly addictive drug while searching the Columbus home of Ronald Kochendoerfer.

Reopening event honors Jennings
Former Ohio State president and self-professed amateur biologist, Edward H. Jennings, was honored as the man responsible for transforming OSU into a "world-class" university by President E. Gordon Gee at the Friday dedication of the newly renovated Jennings Hall.

"The 10th President of this university was a fabulous president," Gee said, "and I made (the) mistake of following him."

Students struggle with spring allergies

Kevin Veverka is allergic to everything. In a recent allergy test he found that out of the 50 allergens he was tested for, he was severely allergic to all of them.

"(Allergies) can make my day miserable," said Veverka, a freshman in mechanical engineering. "You never know what day will be good. Some days I can breathe through both nostrils, some I go through a whole box of Kleenex."

Rock the Block beautifies campus, cooks for service volunteers

The spring rain did not deter hundreds of students from participating in Rock the Block Saturday.

"I still wanted to come out even though it's raining; it's just water," said Jared Klein, a junior in psychology and site leader for Rock the Block.

Global warming debate heats up at expert's lecture

To hear a leading expert speak on the global warming debate,members of the Ohio State community packed two separate lectures given by Dr. James E. Hansen Thursday.

"We have all the ingredients in global warming for the perfect storm," he said in his second lecture. "The planet is out of energy balance."

RPAC hosts health fair

During Thursday's Women's Health Fair at the Recreation and Physical Activity Center, Ohio State Student Health Services set up shop on a plastic picnic table and gave free blood pressure screenings. The screenings aimed to raise student awareness of hypertension.

"College-age students really should have their blood pressure checked," said Kelly Gembala, a 2009 pharmacy school candidate who ran blood pressure screenings. "I don't think any of my friends get their blood pressure checked. They smoke and drink and really should have it checked."
