RPAC plans to save energy

by Michelle Fehribach

RPAC plans to save energy
The utility bill is about $3.5 million for the Recreation and Physical Activity Center for the 2008 fiscal year, which paid for electric, fuels and water.

"This building was designed in 2000 or 2001, about seven years ago, and the estimated utility cost has doubled since then," said Diane Jensen, associate director for the Department of Recreational Sports. "We try to keep the operating cost as low as possible, and the environmental awareness wasn't there (during the design process)."

Four Kegs has new name, new look

by Eric House

Four Kegs has new name, new look
After almost nine years as one of Ohio State's staple watering holes, the recently closed Four Kegs changed its name and image to The O Patio and Pub, opening next week.

"We wanted a name more identifiable with Ohio State and we wanted to change directions. Twenty-one and over - basically upgrade the facility to go along with everything else that's going on on-campus," said Ed Gaughan, the bar's owner. "With south campus being brand new, and Lane and High (Street) being brand new, we had to re-focus ourselves in the market."

Newly approved city budget sets aside much debated streetcar cash

by Anna Gerber

City council members unanimously voted to pass a $1.1 billion Capital Improvements Budget Monday night, but the five-year financial plan does not include funds for Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman's proposed streetcar line.

The budget originally earmarked $2 million for the design of a streetcar that would run on High Street from Mound Street to the Ohio State campus. The line would be finished in time for the city's bicentennial celebration in 2012. The $2 million for the project is still included in the budget, but is included as part of the funding for "miscellaneous economic development."
