The South Oval was transformed into a melting pot of cultures Tuesday afternoon.
"This is a great way to spread cultural awareness and learn about new cultures," said Adriana Babic of the Global Village event held annually by AIESEC.
Babic, a sophomore in international studies, is president of the Ohio State chapter of AIESEC, an international group that places students into internship and leadership positions in foreign countries to help them develop a better understanding of the world.
The event was a way to show students the options they have when considering international education, while providing them with an array of ethnic foods and music. Some students wore their native clothing.
Those who attended the event were able to mingle among 23 tables, each representing a different country. Students interested in the program were able to gain first-hand accounts by talking with others who have already experienced life overseas.
Adriana LaMonte, a sophomore in international studies, said AIESEC is great for students because it helps cover expenses and offers a cheaper way to go abroad. In some cases, it provides jobs.
Christina Cromlish, a senior in international studies, said she was looking for an educational internship, and AIESEC was able to help her find it.
"I spent three months over the summer teaching English in Morocco," she said.
However beneficial her internship was, she said she will remember the experience of living and traveling in a foreign country the most.
"I was able to meet a lot of new people, and we were able to do a lot of traveling on the weekends," Cromlish said. "I got to travel north, south, to the Atlantic and to the Mediterranean."
