From funk, to breaking with a little scooby-do and then straight into trucking.

The hip-hop dance class is in high demand. Every quarter the two-credit class is offered to all students for two credits.

There is an "expectation of being interested in hip-hop as a culture," said hip-hop instructor Noelle Chun. " (It is) appreciating dance in a historical and political context."

"I've learned so much more about hip-hop than I thought I'd ever know," said Cierra "Ciecie" Gillson, a sophomore in psychology. In addition to dancing, students learn about the culture by watching movies, taking short quizzes and writing a paper.

Hip-hop dance is physically demanding. Students are not expected to be in peak physical shape upon entering the class. However, core training exercises like sit-ups and push-ups help students.

They are graded on class participation, attendance and their experience.

"I used to dance back in the day for like 10 years," said Jenny Ajamie, a senior in communications. "Why not get credit for something you love?"

For more information about the class contact the College of Art in Denny Hall.
