A new brand of campaign

A few months ago I stumbled upon a tribute by Charlie Rose to Sen. Barry Goldwater, who at the time had recently passed away. This tribute included an old interview that Rose had with Goldwater shortly after his retirement from the Senate in 1986. Goldwater was the longtime conservative senator from Arizona, whose 1964 campaign as the Republican presidential nominee is largely credited with beginning the political chain of events that led to the 1980 Reagan Revolution.

McCain, GOP inept on economy

If you have not seen the folly in electing economic conservatives to office, look no further than the administration of George W. Bush. Despite what Republicans told us, spending billions of dollars on neo-conservative foreign policy misadventures while handing out massive tax cuts to billionaires and cutting New Deal programs has not kept our country out of a recession.

Why Clinton failed

Thankfully, there is now light at the end of the tunnel in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. Of course, Barack Obama has been the likely nominee since about March, but the insufferable Hillary Clinton launched a kamikaze campaign that looked like it might just be successful until, well, North Carolina and Indiana finally placed the coup de grace on what had become one the odder presidential campaigns - one that saw Rudy Giuliani spend $50 million to net one delegate and saw Ron Paul get a national microphone.
