Members of Men's Glee Club rehearse for their Saturday concert.
Ever heard the favorite Buckeye tunes "Carmen Ohio" or "Hang on Sloopy" belted out by 80 to 90 men at one time? The experience will come to Ohio State Saturday when the OSU Men's Glee Club performs at 8 p.m.

The concert is one of three annual campus performances by the choral group. It is being held at Weigel Auditorium in Weigel Hall. A typical concert consists of OSU favorites and includes songs from the past classical legacies.

Men's Glee Club president and four-year member Jamie Ferguson said he valued and admired the traditions associated with the club.

"Being a part of Men's Glee Club means being part of a 133-year-tradition," Ferguson said. "And what most people don't realize is you don't have to be a singing prodigy to get into the group."

The history spans back to humble beginnings in 1875, and, ironically, "Carmen Ohio" composer Fred Cornell chose the OSU Men's Glee Club as the first performers of his unforgettable tune.

Freshman member Anthony Tipton said he found out about the club on Facebook.

"I was searching for people on Facebook that had been involved, and I could only find positive feedback from the people I talked to," Tipton said.

"After auditioning and performing in my first concert, I knew my place at Ohio State was on stage in a scarlet blazer," he said.

During the spring and autumn seasons, the Men's Glee Club can be spotted on campus anywhere from the Oval to parking lots near the dorms.

The club prides itself on raising spirits and excitement on football gamedays as they sing classic Buckeye songs and provide tailgating entertainment near the stadium.

"The Men's Glee Club does more than make music - it changes, enhances, and augments the lives of the singers who dedicate themselves to it," said Conductor Dr. Robert Ward. "MGC is not only a music ensemble - it is also a community of men that represent the pride, spirit, and tradition that is The Ohio State University."
