Ohio State Obama campaign office returns to campus

More than 250 supporters came out for the grand opening of the Obama for America at Ohio State campaign office in the South Campus Gateway Wednesday night. Obama’s campaign office on campus will provide students with a place to be politically involved by engaging in volunteer opportunities, organizing voter registration efforts and hosting campus team meetings, said Jessica Kershaw, press secretary for Obama for America-Ohio.

OSU research says North American global temperature will rise drastically by 2070

Average global temperature has already risen about 1 degree Fahrenheit during the previous century, according to data from NASA. Ohio State researchers said they project that this number will more than quadruple by 2070 in North America. Noel Cressie, a professor of statistics and director of OSU’s Program in Spatial Statistics and Environmental Statistics, said his research used different climate models to project what the future temperature could be like in North America.

Annual Asian Festival shows OSU roots with dance team

The 18th Annual Asian Festival will blossom this weekend, and as it showcases Asian culture and heritage, it will also show its Ohio State roots. The nonprofit Asian Festival Corporation organized the festival. Visitors can taste Asian foods, shop for Asian products in the market area and learn about culture through exhibitions, performances, games and Dragonboat racing.

OSU club hosts workshop to improve student mental health, awareness

When Mary Noakes arrived on campus as a freshman last year, she decided to participate in a workshop she said was life-changing. After experiencing separation anxiety from her family and overwhelming stress during her first quarter at Ohio State, Noakes, now a second-year in human nutrition, heard about the Art of Living Club and a workshop called Yesplus.

Gene Smith clarifies statement on NCAA violations after Lantern report

Ohio State has no major violations pending before the NCAA and the football program is not facing any new violations, athletic director Gene smith said Thursday. Smith's email statement came hours after The Lantern published a story that included the OSU athletic director revealing that the school has 12 NCAA violations pending, in addition to the 46 secondary violations disclosed last week.

Ohio State Athletic Department budgets $400K for athletes’ iPads

The Ohio State Department of Athletics has budgeted $400,000 to buy iPads for all of its student-athletes beginning in the fall, and some OSU students do not think the program is worth the money. Of the estimated 1,100 student-athletes at OSU, 500 will have the new devices in the fall with the goal of everyone having the technology within the next two years, said David Graham, OSU assistant provost for student-athlete success.

Gene Smith: More NCAA violations are pending

There are more NCAA violations on the horizon for Ohio State, and athletic director Gene Smith said he doesn’t know what the NCAA will make of them. Smith told The Lantern Tuesday the athletic department has 12 pending NCAA violations, and he doesn’t know if they will be deemed primary or secondary violations.

Ohio State has released information regarding 12 secondary NCAA issues being processed by the athletic department’s compliance office. The release contained information that contradicted previous statements from the athletic department, and some OSU students don’t hold athletic director Gene Smith responsible for the pending violations either.

Carlos Hyde prepares for 'very significant' role in Ohio State's running game

Although he’s listed as the second-string running back on Ohio State’s depth chart, junior running back Carlos Hyde expects to have a major impact for the Buckeyes in the fall.
