Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith and football coach Jim Tressel address the media on Dec. 23, 2010 at the Schottenstein Center about NCAA rule violations committed by six athletes.

Ohio State officials are scheduled to hold a press conference at 7 p.m. today to address reports that football coach Jim Tressel knew about six of his players receiving improper benefits eight months before the university reported it to the NCAA.

The athletic department sent out a press release Tuesday afternoon stating that President E. Gordon Gee, athletic director Gene Smith and Tressel will address the media at the Jack Nicklaus Museum.

Yahoo! Sports published an article Monday alleging that Tressel was made aware of the fact that quarterback Terrelle Pryor and five other players sold memorabilia to the owner of a tattoo parlor in Columbus in April. OSU reported the violations to the NCAA on Dec. 8, 2010. The NCAA handed down five-game suspensions to five of the players on Dec. 23, 2010.

Tressel was supposed to sign copies of his book, "Life Promises for Success," at Barnes & Noble on OSU's campus from 7-9 p.m. The store confirmed to The Lantern moments after OSU's announcement that Tressel's signing has been rescheduled for Spring Quarter.

Smith and Tressel could not be reached for comment.

Hopefully it ins't true because it would be sad but the sadder thing is people taking pot shots under the guise of "anonymous". Cowards.

If this turns out to be true it will be a lot like the Michigan BS we had to deal with! One kid's words are twisted by the detroit news(MSU lovers, UM haters) then all a sudden everyone is investigating the program. The thing that sucks is everyone tries to find an edge. Unfortunately for you guys this is one more thing that may find more violations in your program.

Will this press conference be on the Internet somewhere? I want to see how they try and weasel out of this one.

Tressel is ethically challenged. This is why ANY is underlined in his contract.

I'm not saying OSU will take that route, but as long as this source is some anonymous guy, and even after his identity has been revealed, unless he has actual recordings of Jim Tressel finding out about this from a reliable source as it happens, then they all can just say he's full of it and that's it.

Sheesh, what is with these football people? Troy Smith taking booster money, Maurice Claret cheating in classes and committing insurance fraud, Tyrell Pryor and his cronies having the bad taste to sell awards for tattoos, signing Chris Carter after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him, now finding out that Tressel knew about the violations and did nothing about them--where does it end? I wouldn't care if OSU lost every game if they could just manage to do something honestly. They might win games, but they're an embarrassment to the university. And as someone who pays a boatload of money to attend this school, I don't appreciate their actions. They reflect poorly on all of us. Get rid of the whole lot of them.

I'm a diehard Buckeye fan and am not surprised. There have been rumors about Tressel and his family in college football/Ohio football circles for many years. Tressel is a little quicker than his father and brother DICK and knew that you had to invest in good PR to get to that next level. That's where the vest and the bible study come in. It's all for show and just a means to an end. He's as fake as they come and it was only time until "an anonymous source" came forward with the truth. Gee is a fan of the almighty dollar and could give a rats behind whether or not JT violated rules. Gene Smith is pissed I'm sure, but he'll stay in line because if he doesn't he will be the one to take the fall. It's sad, but OSU takes $$$$ over honor any day. Go Bucks!

No way is Tress going anywhere, it's the vest bro, the vest doesn't lie!!!

The boys may get their suspension lowered to 4 games, then all will be back to our normal spot atop the college football world, where we belong and all the haters can take good aim at us! Winning! Winning!!

Clint, you may want to take off your scarlet and grey colored glasses and realize not everyone is out to get you. Let facts come out. "They all have an agenda" is a pretty broad sweeping generalization. Just because someone puts out a story that may upset you, doesn't mean they must have an agenda and the story false.

Another story by Dan Wetzel and Robinson from Yahoo Sports who both hate the BCS System and Ohio State University . They have a book called " Death to the BCS " . The BCS System is supported by the NCAA and the Big Ten Conference and Especially Ohio State University . Yahoo = Fox News ...can't believe anything reported .... They all have an agenda .

Darn Charlie Sheen must be too sober today so the media needs Osu to keep them busy hahahahaha Sadly Osu you keep bringing this on yourself winning all those d@ titles hahahaha No one would give a sh@ if your athletes (and teams) were at the BOTTOM of polls. Gene, Gee and Tressel show a UNITED front and as a I said about Camgate@Auburn unless someone can produce phone records etc. proving Tressel KNEW something then lets move on!!! Geesh now ESPN is hyping up press conf for ratings "Tressel might be fired!"...FAT CHANCE hahahahaha

Go Buckeyes from B more!!!!
