Thaddeus Gibson rushes Jeremiah Masoli in the first quarter of the Rose Bowl on January 1, 2010.

Defensive end Thaddeus Gibson will forgo his senior season at Ohio State and enter the 2010 NFL Draft.

The junior announced his decision today, just days after the Buckeyes' 26-17 win over Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

"I am not leaving the Buckeye family," Gibson said. "I wish the team the very best in the upcoming years and I thank all my teammates for all their support. I will keep in touch with my Buckeye family and I love them all. I will always bleed Scarlet and Gray."

Gibson, who finished with four tackles- two for loss- against the Ducks, said he considers the Rose Bowl victory one of his most memorable experiences.

"I would like to thank Coach Tressel, Coach Fickell, Coach Heacock, Shelly Poe, and the entire Ohio State football staff, as well as my mother, brother and of course God, for helping me to have the opportunity to enter the draft, and for the support from my teammates, alumni, and Ohio State fans across the nation."

Gibson led Ohio State in 2009 with 13 tackles for loss, including four sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He finishes his Buckeye career with 82 tackles.

These decisions are always really tough. His comments demonstrate that he learned more than football at OSU. He'll be fine and our defense will be outstanding next year. Everybody wins. Best of luck Thad.

The tears are rolling down my cheeks. Thanks for the memories Thad, you were an absolute BEAST at OSU and will be sorely missed. Good luck in the pros, I have no doubt you will make an impact there as well!

He is foregoing his Senior Season because he redshirted. He has been on campus 4 years and is scheduled to graduate in June. If you don't like getting the emails opt out. Assume since you are on this site you are familiar with what Buckeye football means to this university.

AMD: says he is forgoing his Senior season, that would be next year. Last I checked he would still be a junior at this point with 2/3 of a school year to go (this is only the 2nd day of classes) and I agree with her, why not play in college for one more year, take advantage of the free ride and have something to fall back on when your pro career (if it even takes off, AHEM Troy Smith) ends. And I also agree with Kittymom, when campus is shut down, electricity has been cut to north campus, etc, I get no BREAKING NEWS emails. Just goes to show where their priority lies.....

Hard part to swallow is he will probably go before Tim Tebow as well. Best of luck.

Kittymom, please get your facts straight he is scheduled to graduate in June, and is forecast to go in round 1 of the draft.

What a darn fool thing to do. Anyone with the opportunity to go to college should stay in and graduate, and not err on the side of goonism, which is so rife in sports. And given that the purpose of a university is education and research, how is it that a sports story rates as "Breaking News" to be forwarded to Buckeyes everywhere?
