Like the men’s team, Ohio State’s women’s basketball team made a trip to the “Tobacco Road” portion of the state of North Carolina. They will bring a loss home.
The No. 15-ranked Buckeyes were unable to win on the road in their visit to No. 22 North Carolina, falling short to the Tar Heels, 57-54.
With the loss OSU falls to 4-2 on the season. Both of their losses have come against ranked opponents.
OSU senior guard Tayler Hill scored a game-high 24 points on 9-21 shooting led OSU, but the Buckeyes’ likely could have used another scoring option as no other player reached double figures. Conversely, three different Tar Heels scored 11 points in the game.
It was a close contest, but the Buckeyes had to claw their way back from a large deficit to make it a game. Midway through the second half, OSU trailed by 16 points at 44-28.
With Hill leading the way the Buckeyes were able to cut the margin, and even took a two-point lead with 1:26 left to play. But the Tar Heels answered in a big way, forcing two turnovers down the stretch and scoring the game’s final five points to clinch the upset win.
OSU returns home this weekend for a noon tipoff against Evansville.
