Ohio State wide receiver Verlon Reed’s days as a Buckeye are over.
The redshirt sophomore has left the school’s football team, OSU athletic spokesman Jerry Emig confirmed Monday.
Emig said Reed’s departure from coach Urban Meyer’s squad was a “mutual decision.”
Reed, a Columbus native from Marion-Franklin High School, began 2011 as a starter before suffering a torn right ACL against Michigan State that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. At the time of his injury, Reed had collected 132 yards on nine catches.
This season, Reed amassed just one catch for 13 yards in the seven games he played under Meyer.
Notable receivers returning to OSU are junior Corey “Philly” Brown and sophomores Devin Smith and Evan Spencer.
Reed did not immediately respond to The Lantern’s request for comment.
