Ohio State wrestler Logan Stieber, the 2012 NCAA National Champion at 133 pounds, has a new honor to his name.
Stieber was named the 2012 InterMat Freshman of the Year. InterMat, an internet publication, announced Thursday that Stieber won the award after receiving all 10 first-place votes and 90 points total in the voting process.
The redshirt freshman from Monroeville, Ohio, finished his first-ever collegiate campaign with a 33-2 overall mark, including 15-2 in duals and 7-1 in Big Ten matches. In addition to his NCAA triumph, Stieber, OSU's team leader in pins, also won the 2012 Big Ten championship at 133 pounds.
Stieber was a four-time Ohio high school state champion and finished his career with a 184-1 record. He competed in two tournaments with OSU in 2010 before a hand injury ended his season.
In total, 13 wrestlers received votes for the award including three Buckeyes.
All-American 141-pound, freshman Hunter Stieber, and All-American at 149-pound freshman Cam Tessari also received votes and placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Hunter Stieber is the younger brother of Logan Stieber. Hunter Stieber and Tessari won four state championships while at Monroeville High School.
