An upset of No. 14 Nebraska seemed possible for Ohio State on Saturday, but the Buckeyes found a new way to lose.

One week after nearly being shutout at Ohio Stadium for the first time since 1982, the Buckeyes (3-3, 0-2) coughed-up a 27-6 lead and allowed the Cornhuskers (5-1, 1-1) to creep back into the game and eventually eke out a 34-27 win. Sophomore quarterback Taylor Martinez and junior running back Rex Burkhead converted a key second-half score to help clinch a win in Nebraska's first-ever Big Ten home game.

OSU got off to a quick start offensively, scoring on a 41-yard field goal on its opening drive, by sophomore kicker Drew Basil. Nebraska tied the game just minutes later with a 50-yard field goal by junior kick Brett Maher.

OSU's offense kept coming, and optimism abounded.

Junior tight end Jake Stoneburner scored his first touchdown since Week 2 and his fifth of the season when he collected a pass from Miller near the line of scrimmage and ran 32 yards for a touchdown.

After stopping the Cornhuskers' offense on fourth-and-2, sophomore running back Carlos Hyde powered through the line of scrimmage and ran 63 yards to put OSU up, 17-3.

Senior left tackle Mike Adams made his return from a five game suspension for selling team memorabilia in exchange for improper benefits in the form of tattoos. Adams' impact was felt early as he and the OSU offensive line allowed the Buckeyes to rush for 145 yards on its first four drives.

Maher added a 34-yard field goal with 2:44 remaining in the first half for Nebraska, but the Buckeyes had one score left in them before half.

OSU added a 35-yard field goal by Basil as time expired to restore the 14-point deficit as the Buckeyes took a 20-6 lead into half.

Senior wide receiver DeVier Posey, who was suspended for the first five games of the season along with Adams, Daniel "Boom" Herron and Solomon Thomas, was suspended for an additional five games after for being overcompensated during his summer employment.

The athletic department announced the NCAA's ruling on Posey's additional suspension, which athletic director Gene Smith said was "harsh," on Friday.

Despite Posey's absence, Miller wasn't hurting for receiving targets against Nebraska.

Hyde scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, but it was sophomore wide receiver Corey "Philly" Brown's diving catch that brought the Buckeyes inside the Cornhuskers' 10-yard line.

The touchdown upped OSU's lead to 27-6 and the "Buckeye Bounce" chant could be heard throughout the stadium, but only for a short time.

A Miller fumble deep in OSU territory resulted in an 18-yard touchdown run by Martinez that cut the Cornhuskers' deficit to 27-13 with 7:23 remaining in the third quarter.

Suddenly, the 85,426 fans in Memorial Stadium came alive.

To that point in the game, the fumble was the lone blemish on Miller's stat line. The freshman had completed 5-of-8 passes for 95 yards, a touchdown and 91 rushing yards. Miller limped off the field late in the third quarter after a rush attempt.

Redshirt senior quarterback Joe Bauserman, who started the first three games of the year for OSU, went under center for the Buckeyes and skied his first pass of the game out of bounds on a third down play.

On Nebraska's next drive, Martinez connected with sophomore receiver Quincy Enunwa on a 34-yard touchdown pass to slice OSU's lead to seven points at 27-20.

Bauserman struggled after that, going 1-of-7 on OSU's next two drives.

On the defensive side, OSU held the Cornhuskers to 117 total yards of offense in the first half, but with the comeback nearly complete, the Nebraska offense wouldn't be denied in the second half.

Junior running back Rex Burkhead drew the team level with a 30-yard touchdown reception with 7:35 remaining in regulation.

A Bauserman pass on second down was intercepted by Nebraska, which quickly moved down the field for the winning score. Burkhead ran 17 yards to cap the comeback and sink any hope of an upset by OSU.

OSU (3-3, 0-2) continues Big Ten play next week with its first Leaders Division game, which will kick off Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Illinois' Memorial Stadium.

Luke is a one and done. He looks like a deer in the headlights. He was never really given a chance to succeed with the mess he stepped into and the lame coaching staff he inheriated. Keep Luke, and Vrable
and get rid of the rest. Urban will be the next coach at OSU. It's all about the $$$. The Ohio State University
will not sit back while Luke learns to be a head coach.

Quit holding your breath for Urban Meyer to save the day. IMO the NCAA will scorce the earth at OSU and no quality coach will take a chance for years. We are "Fickelled Up" for years to come.
forget it for now

For now, humor the Fickell 'n' Friends show which is merely a mid-season replacement until the real program shows up and next year we'll be back! and hope The Baus doesn't apply to grad school (sorry Baus I hate to say it) and Miller gets better within a year! GO BUCKS!

OSU is having a Tiger Woods moment. Stop cheating and you can't play for crapola.
Amazing what happens when OSU has to recruit legally. Just another average team.
I'm lovin' it.

Amazing that the OSU coachign staff has not been able to concldue that Bauserman simply cannot play at this level. He can;t throw to receviers (does a great job hitting fans and the band), adn can;'t run. Numbver three QB throws better than MIller adn runs better than Bauserman.. DA ! I fnot mIller, than him please.. we all knew the game was lost the minute Bauserman came in, and so did the players. They quit playing, and have shown repeatedly, they will nto play for Bauserman. When will someone get it? He shouidl not even be on the depth chart.. move up three and four to two adn three and get some wheels in when Braxton cannot.

I'm a long time Husker fan and I would like to apologize for the smattering of Boo's when your team came out on the field of play. There are always some ill advised fans who do not reflect the majority of the fan base. At halftime, I thought there's no way we would be able to come back to win this game. I was gathering my thoughts on how I could respond in a positive way to your fans after the game. Well thank goodness we won, but your fans were fantastic in defeat. Looking forward to coming to your home next year.

"... rabid tantrums that end in over turned cars and fires in Columbus streets.Factory workers and unions do that stuff, supposedly not the educated..."

Wow, what a comment from the "educated" (possibly brainwashed?) mind. Next time you have a weekend off, some vacation time, an adult, not child, co-worker at your side, and, yes, even health benefits you might want to thank a union organizer. Greed is the enemy of all of us (think Goldman Sachs), certainly not organized labor.

BuckGrad - you are a moron. life is not all about college football. Get out of Columbus and see what the real world is like. Who cares.

And yeah, nice work on figuring out this scandal Lantern...

I agree........bring back Tressel! So he didn't tell everything(in the beginning of this scandal), that he knew about the players selling memorabillia.........eventually he came forward with the truth. Look at Clinton........he probably should have been impeached for his scandal, but he got away with his wrongdoings by paying some fines, and continuing to lead our country. So why couldn't Tressel pay some big fines, and continue to be the head coach? O.S.U. made a big mistake letting him go.

I'm a Husker fan, but I feel for OSU. You guys are in the same boat Nebraska was in when Solich was fired. I do believe, however, that this season will be OSU's worst. I believe that when a new coach is selected, especially if it's Urban Meyer as rumored, OSU will be back in full swing next year. Good game last night, but glad the Huskers cold find a way to "getter done"

As an OSU grad and one of the proudest alums of our beloved university, it breaks my heart to witness the total destruction of our dynasty in CFB! It will takes us many years to come back from this debacle. You are all kidding yourselves if you think that this is a one season hiccup. Don't worry about any further sanctions that may come from the NCAA and don't worry about any suspended players who will be reinstated later this season. The damage has been done and this latest embarrassment of losing to Nebraska by allowing 28 unanswered points has dug us a hole in which we will not be able to climb out of.

OSU's strength has always been in its recruiting ability. We always got the best players from all around the country. But no high school star will want to commit to a university whose team may only be able to compete with Indiana in the Big Ten. All of these high school stars are looking forward to an NFL career with the big signing bonuses and high dollar contracts. So our ability to recruit has now been seriously hampered, maybe even permanently destroyed!

There is only ONE option that we have to get us back on track, and his name is Urban Meyer. Jim Tressel was one of the highest paid coaches in college football ($4.6 million 2010 salary including his cut of OSU's Nike deal). Gordon Gee and Gene Smith need to fire Fickell and his entire coaching staff! And they need to make Meyer an offer that he can't refuse, no matter what the cost! He is the only name in football that will entice the high school stars to commit to OSU and help rebuild the damage that Fickell and Bollman have done. And Gee and Smith should realize that their jobs are in jeopardy unless they come up with a solution to the problems that they have caused... making Tressel a scapegoat for their incompetence!

Even bring back John Cooper-at least to put in an offense and use the talent that OSU does have, the use of Bauserman as even #2 QB is inexcusable!

It took Michigan awhile to root out and recover from a bad AD- Bill Martin. Martin hung onto his buddy Lloyd Carr too long, while producing mediocre to bad basketball teams since the Fab Five were shamed and great coach Fisher discharged. But the 'game' has changed with competent David Brandon. He wants to win, and though they have played a weak schedule so far, Michigan football is winning.

OSU will recover, but hopefully with some knew knowdledge about winning, such as how to do it gracefully, legally and devoid of rabid tantrums that end in over turned cars and fires in Columbus streets. Factory workers and unions do that stuff, supposedly not the educated.

At least we won't have any add'l memorabilia scandals since there likely will be no more gold pants charms or Big Ten Champ rings this year....ditto commenter 'thank you Tressel and Pryor' and I feel bad for the guys on team who didn't do us wrong....but since no good deed goes unpunished they suffer (and we fans, too) from the antics of others. Let's start game-planning NOW for M game- at least we might become cohesive unit by then. AND SIT BAUS. What about Kenny G????? Or Gordon Gee at this point would be better than Baus....really? Could he try to keep the ball within the lines at least?

Good game Corn Huskers, welcome to the Big Ten. Buckeyes you played hard but came up short. Mr.Bauserman with all dur respect please go back to baseball youll still manage to make minor league money. You have a good throwing arm but its not for football let alone QBing. Coach lets get hot and put this loss aside. Please fire G. Smith & G. E. Gee.

I feel like Bauserman is throwing the game, how can he really play that badly? How can he do well enough on the practice field and then play so poorly on game day ?

It is getting worse and worse for OSU football. Blowing 21 points to Nebraska is another low point. That a 5th year Senior QB can be playing badly like this is baffling. What has Bauserman learned in 4 years? I cannot imagine the massacre at the Michigan game. Fickell is also history at this point. He and his staff are simply incompetent. OSU may not recover for a while, maybe 4 years. Thank you, Tressel and Pryor!
