Ohio State defensive back Dominic Clarke (28) and free safety Jamie Wood (21) upend Purdue University defensive end Robert Maci (58) during the third quarter of an NCAA football game against Purdue University at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010. OSU won 49-0.

Ohio State football sophomore cornerback Dominic Clarke will not travel with the Buckeyes for Saturday's game at Illinois after being arrested Sunday and charged with disorderly conduct during an on-campus incident involving what a witness described as a "compressed air" gun.

An OSU student called the university police department and said that three black males were sitting on top of the roof of Marketplace, a campus eatery, "firing a paintball gun down at people."

The student said he looked out his window and saw the men on the roof.

"I can't totally tell if it's an Airsoft or a paintball, but it's using compressed air," the student said.

The OSU police department report identified Clarke, as well as football freshman offensive lineman Chris Carter and men's basketball freshman Sam Thompson.

Both Carter and Thompson gave statements to police but were not arrested.

In an email to The Lantern, OSU football spokesman Jerry Emig confirmed that Clarke would be suspended.

"The individual was involved in a university rules violation," Emig said in an email. "The issue is currently going through the university process, and head coach Luke Fickell has announced that he will not be traveling with the team to Illinois this weekend."

Basketball team spokesman Dan Wallenberg said in an email, "We have no issues with any basketball student athletes."

The police report said that the incident is still under investigation.

Good article. We enjoyed it thoroughly.

Seriously though guys, we are the laughing-stock of college football. The program is under a microscope, but these kids' actions are as egregious as ever. On or off the field, I don't even know where to point the finger anymore. This probably sounds like a broken record, but can we just clean house? And that includes the AD and President!

At exbuck: Wow! They speak of my Alma Mater Devry University negatively. Amazing. I left school with my degree and continued to grow my business. No. All 18 - 20 year old young men are not engaging in such ignorant behavior. My 24 year old son is being prepared to take over our business. He is a leader of men who work under him. My 20 year old is on the deans list at Devry getting his degree. I disagree whole (not hole) heartedly with your advice. Remember Maurice Claret? University life is designed to prepare you for your life after school. Hold the student accountable. I assure you life will upon graduation.

Hey ExBuck

Did you graduate or drop out? I would think that a graduate could put together some more coherent sentences than your rambling comments provided. Perhaps, you are part of the problem with the University! They are not putting out good, educated citizens, with a level of education required for this screwed up world!

Hey exbuck, its news because the team can't stay out of trouble. Meaning there are team discipline issues and its a symptom of dysfunction.

how is this news?

im a ex-student and things like this thing are gonna happen with 18-20 year old kids just trying to have fun. not everybodys the perfect person in the world. i mean everyone kills people murders people steals from you steals from me whatever. i think that people need a second chance and I've always looked up to mike vick and i always will.

everyone here needs to do some research on the hole situation going on before judging someone. research is the most used resource to finding out something you need from school papers to things you want to buy. in this case you guys could have used it to find out that maybe this isnt a big deal. if one would just go and do something with out researching first they could of missed something that could have later benefited later on or benefited one more then the other.
