First-year Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has dismissed senior linebacker Storm Klein from the Buckeyes program.

Meyer’s Saturday evening decision to dismiss Klein comes after the player’s Friday arrest and the subsequent charges of domestic violence and assault that were filed against him. Klein entered a not guilty plea in response to the charges, but an OSU athletics release said that “his arrest and the seriousness of the allegations warranted Meyer to remove him from the team.”

“The charges filed against Storm Klein violate the core values of the Ohio State Football Program,” Meyer said in the release. “As a result, Storm has been removed from the team. It has been made very clear that this type of charge will result in dismissal. If there are any changes in the charges, we will re-evaluate his status.”

Klein's lawyer, Columbus attorney Timothy Walsh, did not immediately respond to The Lantern's Satuday request for comment.

According to an NBC4 report, the alleged altercation developed after an argument about the future of a relationship between Klein and the alleged female victim.

According to the report, the prosecutor at Saturday's court hearing said Klein “purposefully threw her against the front door causing her head to hit the door” and that “there were noticeable injuries all over the prosecuting witness' body including to her arms."

Klein is the third OSU player to be disciplined by Meyer since the end of the team's spring practices.

Ohio State redshirt senior tight end Jake Stoneburner and redshirt junior offensive lineman Jack Mewhort were removed from their athletic scholarships June 3 after being arrested in Dublin, Ohio, for obstructing official business. Stoneburner and Mewhort fled police after urinating in public.

Klein was listed on Meyer’s post-spring football depth chart as a backup at middle linebacker while Stoneburner and Mewhort were expected to be starters for the upcoming season.

@Bill, if you don't know the difference between urinating in public and domestic violence then you have a serious problem.

What choice did Urban have? Storm is lucky he didn't hurt her, Next time walk out yourself and call the police. Unless he really did throw her against the door, she is a bitch for going to the popo about a fight with an old boyfriend.

It's not time to start worshiping Meyer's decisions already......everyone worshiped all of Tressel's decisions until something went wrong. Both of them have/had the best interest of the team in mind when making decisions. Doesn't make Meyer a savior, Tressel suspended and removed players as well. Note: Stoney and Mewhort will be back with the team in the fall, Klein's removal will be permanente if the charges stand.

@Anonymous 17:28: Whaddaya wanna bet this isn't the first time your friend Storm has pulled this sort of stunt? If UM isn't going to put up with two Lamebrains taking a squirt in Dublin, what makes you think a turd who beats up his girlfriend is gonna get a pass. And the coach probably won't make a decision based on emotion. The cops have all the evidence he needed to show Storm the door (get it?).

Everyone needs to shut up. No one even knows the full story with Storm, so until you do. Shut up. Please.

Wth luck, if any other Knuckleheads are on the team, they've seen what happens when you suffer from cranial-rectal inversion. Thanks, Coach, for being The Hammer. Go Buck!

Good for Urban Meyer! I honestly never expected him to step up and hold any of these jerk football players responsible for their actions. Heaven knows that Tressel never did--his best move was sweeping things under the carpet and pretending that they didn't exist. But Meyer is showing me something here by getting rid of Stoneburner, Mewhort, and now Klein, and I'm really glad to see OSU FINALLY hire a coach who is willing to take out the trash.
