OSU's new head coach Urban Meyer speaks to the media during his introduction as the Buckeyes' coach on Nov. 28, 2011. Meyer was previously the head coach at University of Florida.

Bill Sheridan, former linebackers coach for the Miami Dolphins, has been hired by Ohio State for the upcoming season, a source tells The Lantern.

Sheridan will likely be taking the spot of Taver Johnson, former defensive backs coach. Johnson left to coach at Arkansas with former safeties coach Paul Haynes on Jan. 15.

Johnson's salary was set at $275,000, before he left to coach at Arkansas.

Jerry Emig, OSU athletic spokesman, said OSU has not made an official announcement yet.

"When we have something official to announce regarding personnel we will let you know, as is our protocol," Emig said in an email.

The addition of Sheridan marks the ninth personnel hire by coach Urban Meyer since he took over on Nov. 28.

Sheridan worked under Lloyd Carr at Michigan for three years from 2002-2004. He later went on to coach linebackers for the New York Giants, from 2005-2008, which includes a Super Bowl victory in 2007. In 2009, he was promoted to defensive coordinator for the Giants. He was fired at the end of the 2009 season.

For the 2010 and 2011 season, he was the linebackers coach for the Miami dolphins under Tony Sparano.

In addition to Michigan and his stint in the NFL, Sheridan has worked for Notre Dame, Michigan State, Army, Cincinnati and Maine.

His son, Nick, was a quarterback at Michigan from 2008-2009.

With the addition of Sheridan, Meyer has now hired Everett Withers; assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator, Tom Herman; offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Ed Warinner; co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, Tim Hinton; tight ends and fullbacks coach, Zach Smith; wide receivers coach, Brian Voltolini; director of football operations, Mark Pantoni; director of player personnel and Mickey Marotti; assistant athletic director for football sports performance.

HC Urban Meyer has a great coaching staff + look at the two 5 star recruits for the class of 2013 in Cameron Burrows of Trotwood-Madison HS and Jalin Marshall of Middletown HS ...two of Oho's best in 2013 already onboard to be a Buckeye .... Go Bucks !

I think it's a good hire, yes he coached at scUM but he left there and has nfl and Super Bowl experience in coaching. I also think that it's smart looking ahead cause it will help give urban an edge on recruiting in the state up north.

first bad move meyer has made. hiring a michigan man, without ohio roots is not good. there has to be a logical reason he did this, maybe there is a hidden recruiting advantage i'm not thinking of.

Not crazy about this hire, but maybe his experience in the NFL will help him succeed here! I also like that he coached under another respectable coach in Lloyd Carr (even though it was at ichigan!!!)

Bill Sheridan is an outstanding coach and has been one for over 25years. He is well respected both in the NFL and at the college level by fellow coaches and players alike. Ohio State has made a very smart choice by hiring Sheridan. Watching the Buckeye's will be even more exciting with Sheridan as an addition to the Defensive staff. Go Buckeyes!
