People who appreciate the art of the pirouette, entrechat and arabesque have the chance to see one of the best ballet companies in the world perform these and other difficult movements when the Bolshoi comes to the Value City Theatre in the Jerome Schottenstein Center. The company, consisting of 23 dancers, an 11-person orchestra and technicians, will perform their show, “From Russia With Love,” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The show includes the Don Quixote Suite and La Bayadere, along with solo pieces the dancers will perform. This is the first production under the Value City Theatre, said Justin Doyle, marketing manager for the Schottenstein Center.”What we do is bring the stage up, so it gives the arena more of a theatre feel,” Doyle said. “This is a pretty rare production to be done in an arena.”The great thing about the Bolshoi is that it has tradition. The ballet was created in 1773, and originated from classes given at a Moscow orphanage. The company gave its first performance in 1776 and moved to the Bolshoi Theatre in 1825.”It’s a real subtle balance between the style and grace and the flare of the dancing,” Ron Oakland, the musical conductor of the show, said.Oakland, in his second tour with the Bolshoi, also said he likes the challenge of working with the company.”Part of the challenge is that we do not speak each other’s languages,” he said.Victor Barykin, who puts the show together and trains the dancers, first toured the United States as a dancer in 1973.”We love coming to the United States. It’s a great country,” Barykin said. The Bolshoi is currently in its fourth week of a seven-week tour that started in Las Vegas and will end in Myrtle Beach.Ticket prices are $43.50, $35.50 and $27.50 and can be charged by phone at (614)431-3600 or 1-800-GO-BUCKS.
