Break out your tie-dye shirts and Birkenstocks: Hempfest is back.

Starting tomorrow, hippies and hemp lovers will descend upon the Oval in celebration of all things hemp.

According to an article in yesterday’s Lantern, many students and administrators have misconceptions about Hempfest, but according to event organizers, Hempfest is a vehicle to teach people the uses of hemp and open a dialogue about drug policy.

While it might make some administrators uneasy, Hempfest is a safe environment in which people can discuss the need for drug policy reform.

The current drug policy keeps too many people in jail at too high a cost to the American taxpayers, and denies financial aid t those who could use it to better their lives.

The Lantern supports the success of Hempfest and hopes it will help create talk about much-needed reform. Students and other attendees should, of course, act responsibly and respect the current laws.
