The Ohio Statehouse will celebrate Ohio Proud products with the Capitol Artists and Authors Fair from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today.

About 20 artists from all over Ohio will display original work in the Ohio Statehouse. The fair will be on the ground floor, where visitors will have the opportunity to talk with the artists and authors.

From books by Ohio writers to glass, jewelry, pottery and paintings, this is not only a one-stop shopping opportunity for central Ohio, but also a way to promote local products for the holidays.

“This fair is the very first one being held,” said Becky Wildman, manager of the Statehouse Museum Shop.

The Ohio Statehouse Museum Shop is one place to find Ohio-themed souvenirs. Other gift items there include holiday and seasonal decorations, home decor, holiday and gourmet foods, clothing, jewelry, toys and more, according to the Statehouse Web site.

“We are doing this fair to encourage people to buy Ohio for the holiday,” Wildman said.

Vendors will exhibit their items for visitors to browse or purchase as special gifts for friends and family.

In addition to arts and crafts, the fair will feature outstanding examples of locally grown food.

“We are going to have samplings of a variety of Ohio Proud food all day and begin serving Ohio Proud wine at 4 p.m.,” Wildman said. The wine tasting will last an hour and a half.

The Ohio Statehouse is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. The Ohio Statehouse Museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. on weekends. Admission is free.

The Capitol Artists and Authors Fair is a chance for people to appreciate and learn more about the Ohio Proud brand, which promotes local agriculture and art. It is free and open to the public.
