Following his team’s 10-8 loss to Louisville Wednesday afternoon, Ohio State baseball coach Bob Todd informed his team that he plans to retire after this season, according to news reports.

“I think I’m ready,” Todd said through a press release. “I always said I wanted a career and not just a job. I think I found that. I still feel good and I love this game because it has been a very enjoyable and prominent part of my life and that of my family, but I have always felt I’d rather leave this game too early than too late.”

Todd, 61, has been at the helm at OSU for 23 years and has guided the Buckeyes to eight Big Ten regular-season titles and eight conference tournament championships.

Todd has won more than 1,000 games as a college coach during his time at Kent State and OSU. He was inducted into the Ohio State Varsity “O” Athletics Hall of Fame in Fall 2008.
