Ohio State students will have the chance to give soldiers in Iraq a part of their hearts tonight at the Ohio Union.

The Theta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Kappa Sorority, Inc. is sponsoring the “Give a Part of Your Heart to a Soldier” program to show its support for troops abroad.

When they arrive, students will receive a schedule of the order in which they will go to the program’s three stations. The stations include a care package-packing station, a hemp bracelet-making station and a postcard-making station.

There will also be an optional station where students can record a video message for the troops.

One speaker at the program will be Jim Caronis, who is the chairman of Operation Buckeye, an organization responsible for sending more than 5,000 care packages to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan last year.

Another speaker will be Jarod Klucho, an OSU student who served in Iraq. Klucho, who is now a security and intelligence major, has been part of the Marine Reserves for five years and served in Iraq as a driver and machine gunner on security missions from April to November 2009. He will also show a slideshow of pictures from the Middle East, said Kamilah King, communications chair and webmaster of Theta Chapter.

“Give a Part of Your Heart to a Soldier” is just the beginning of Theta Chapter’s “Think Pink” week.

“This upcoming week is a week where we do a lot of programming for the community and giving back,” King said. “We take a lot of pride in that.”

There will be events for OSU students every night this week at the Hale Center as part of “Think Pink” week, including “Unveiling the Truth” on Tuesday night and the “Think Pink, Be Green” barbecue on Thursday night.

Kappa Alpha Kappa, a historically black sorority, was formed in 1908. The Theta Chapter of the sorority was formed at OSU in 1921 to give back to the Columbus community.

“Give a Part of Your Heart to a Soldier” will take place at 7 p.m. in the Union Cartoon Room.
