OSU community members seeking free food, gifts and entertainment attended three Welcome Week events Tuesday at locations throughout campus and experienced a taste of OSU’s opportunities.

More than 2,000 people flocked to Buck-I-Frenzy at the RPAC plaza between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

“It’s like a block party for all the OSU students,” said Alex Hajohn, an undecided second-year.

Buck-I-Frenzy’s atmosphere was carnival-like, with men juggling on stilts, people jumping on trampolines and scarlet and gray balloon arches blowing onto those waiting in line for free Noodles & Company.

A major theme throughout the day was free food.

The Columbus Jazz Orchestra performed a concert on the South Oval at 6:30 p.m. during Picnic with the Buckeyes. The 3,500 students, staff and faculty who arrived before the concert ate free hot dogs, chips and soda.

“It rained last year, so we didn’t get to experience this,” said Kevin Arndt, a second-year in political science, who helped set up the food for the event.

The Wexner Center’s student party and outdoor film overlapped with Picnic with the Buckeyes and began at 7 p.m. Artist Mark Bradford, who has an exhibition at the Wexner Center, made an appearance earlier in the day.

More than 2,500 students received free pizza, T-shirts and ice cream, if they were patient enough to wait in line.

The Wexner Center showed the science-fiction classic “Planet of the Apes” in the evening.

Christine Soliman, a fourth-year in sculpture, thought the movie was a good pick because it was a classic and not a lot of people had seen it.

“How often do you get to see a movie outside?” Soliman said.
