Ohio State junior point guard Samantha Prahalis has been suspended for the first three games of the season for an “NCAA secondary rules violation,” the team announced in a press release Thursday morning.

Prahalis is allowed to practice but cannot travel with the team to road games at Temple on Friday and LSU on Nov. 17. She will also miss Sunday’s home opener against Eastern Michigan.

According to the NCAA, a secondary violation is “a violation that is isolated or inadvertent in nature, provides or is intended to provide only a minimal recruiting, competitive or other advantage and does not include any significant recruiting inducement or extra benefit.”

Prahalis averaged 16.0 points and 8.3 assists as a sophomore, setting a school record for total assists in a season with 289.

The Commack, N.Y., native was named to the preseason watch list for the Wooden Award, given to the nation’s top player.

The team declined further comment.
