A power outage affected parts of Ohio State’s campus Wednesday afternoon due to a cable failure.

The failure of a line leading into Baker Hall in turn caused a string of other outages. Protective devices had tripped circuits after the initial line failure, causing more buildings to lose power, said Lindsay Komlanc, spokeswoman for OSU Administration and Planning.

There were about 21 buildings without power on South campus, including Baker Hall East and West, Hale Hall, Ohio Union, Kennedy Commons and Park-Stradley Hall, Komlanc said.

The outage was discovered at about 1:30 p.m. OSU Emergency Management tweeted at the time from its account, @OSU_EMFP, “Power outage affecting several buildings on the south side of the Columbus campus. Estimated ETA for power to be restored is 1 hour.”

OSU Utilities reinstalled power in all buildings except Baker Hall by about 2:30 p.m., and by about 5:45, power was restored to Baker Hall as well, Komlanc said.
