If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food near campus, then Junior’s Tacos is for you.

The taco truck can typically be found on 5th Avenue and Highland Street in the Dairy Family parking lot and is a diamond in the rough. Nothing compares to these delicious authentic tacos.

The truck features a choice of chicken, steak, fish (Tilapia), carnitas or chorizo tacos as well as burritos, quesadillas and a few other authentic Mexican options.

Most tacos come with cilantro and fresh cut onions, but the fish taco comes garnished with lettuce and tomato. All tacos come with a lime and some radish on the side and with every order comes a choice of two salsas: a green mild one or a deep red spicy salsa. I always get both because the flavors of each salsa are unique and scrumptious.

The truck offers add-ons to the tacos as well. Avocado, grilled onions, guacamole and sour cream are just some of the possible additions. The truck features authentic Mexican Jarritos soda or cans of Coca-Cola products.

Since Junior’s is a food truck, there is no seating available. However, there is a small park near the truck’s usual spot that has picnic benches where it’s enjoyable to eat when the weather is nice.

Junior’s is also reasonably priced, at $1.50 for all tacos, with the exception of fish tacos, which are $2.00. The quesadillas cost $5.

The food truck is also fresh. They cook the fish for the tacos when they are ordered, which can cause the food to take longer, meaning around 12 minutes.

I’ve been to Junior’s three times and I have to say my favorite menu item is the fish taco, but you cannot go wrong with the chorizo or the steak, since they all have bold flavors and are cooked perfectly.

The size of the crowd at Junior’s varies depending on the time, however, lunch seems to be the busiest time in my experience. When you walk up to the truck, the scent of the meat is intoxicating.

The workers are friendly and fun — they always remember my puppy and remind me not to let him get into trouble, which has made me feel as though eating at the truck is more than just food, it’s an experience. The food has such distinct flavors that I cannot help but come back again and again.

Though Junior’s is a short drive, it is a fun and cheap place for students to eat.

Junior’s is Open Monday through Tuesday 10 a.m. – 11 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. – 11 p.m., and closed Wednesday.
