Water service to Lincoln and Morrill Towers, along with the Drake Performance and Event Center, was shut off Wednesday evening after a water main break in the area earlier that day.

Crews discovered a “slow water leak” at approximately 10 a.m. and initially hoped to resolve the issue without disturbing water service, but determined at 4:30 p.m. that it would be necessary to shut the water off, Student Life spokesman Dave Isaacs said.

The university put heated, portable toilets outside the towers and supplied hall desks with bottled water. Isaacs advised affected students to use showers at the RPAC until midnight.

Crews hope water can be restored by midnight, barring further complications, Isaacs said.

Isaacs said no cost information is yet available.
